I was at my weight management meeting, yesterday: and officially down eight-hundred grams.
About one and three quarters of a pound.
So that’s good.
I’m officially knackered … because I finished off a film review, last night: of the 1978 version of Superman.
Feel free to hit the like button!

Whilst we’re on the subject of Superman … ?
I have something of a confession to make.
My thoughts go in all sorts of directions, when it comes to the DC universe’s most powerful character.
Inevitably?
I wonder what would have happened if — in the real-world — someone that powerful, existed.
You’d have to ask what would happen if the character landed in Nazi Germany*, or Stalinist Russia.
Quite where would go, I don’t know.
The other thing that occurs?
Is a quote from Moore and Gibson’s Watchmen graphic novel: when someone was discussing Dr Manhattan, the novel’s equivalent to Superman, a character that’s equally as transcendent.
“God exists, and he’s American”.
If there were a real Superman … ?
Well … we can only be glad there isn’t …

Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum†, Olga‡, Irene§ and Debbi¶ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s themed question set, shall we?
Q2)14th July is International what day: International Non-Binary People’s Day, International Transexual People’s Day or International Transgendered People’s Day?
Q4)John Keble will be marked with a Lesser Festival on 14th July. By which church: the Roman Catholic Church, the Church of England or the Church of the Tin Vagabond?
* Writer, Kim Newman, played with the idea of a Nazi Kal-El in a 1991 short story called “Ubermensch”. The story sees an aging Nazi-hunter visiting the Nazi Superman, who — in this universe — is the last prisoner in Spandau Prison. It’s a fascinating read: with an interesting ending.
† Hello, Mum!
‡ Yes, there was a case of it in the Orkneys, Olga: a few years ago, now. I believe they imported the same writer. There were similar panics about Dungeons and Dragons, as well. And I think the Pizzagate conspiracy — back in 2016 — was a more recent variation on the theme. (We’ve talked about it, already, I think. There was supposed to be a paedophile ring operating out of the cellar of a pizza parlour … that didn’t have a cellar.)
Oh, the set on the 25th is about Galicia: I think you have an advantage … :D
Q10) No I hadn't heard of some of those. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the Galicia themed teaser, although these days, with the heat and everything else, I'm finding it difficult to keep up with things, so don't worry if I don't appear at some point.
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.

ReplyDeleteOur internet went out last night during a big storm. I'm just barely able to get online by connecting through my cell phone.
I occasionally lose the connection, so I'll try to write fast.

Wasn't Superman supposed to defend "truth, justice, and the American way"?
Whatever happened to truth and justice? :)
