Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 10-11-2025 — Gone for a (Richard) Burton.
10th November, 2025: Richard Burton.
I meant to mention this, yesterday.
But, if you’re on certain benefits in the UK, you qualify for the Government’s Warm Home discount: a £150 payment that goes onto your electricity bill.
Mine … ?
Went onto my meter, on Saturday afternoon.
I’m grateful.
It means that — on my next payday — I can put the money I spend on electricity, onto my gas bill.
The older I get, the worse my circulation feels, so the warmer I prefer it.
Either way, that payment’s welcome.
The fact the batteries had run out on my thermostat, this morning … ?
Wasn’t … !

Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum* and Debbi† and putting in their answers: with both scoring four out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1)Richard Burton was born on 10th November, 1925. In which country of the UK: England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland?
Q2)What was Burton’s birth name: Richard Jenkins, Richard Jones or Richard Davies?
Q3)Burton served with which of the UK’s armed services: the Royal Navy, the Army or the Royal Airforce?
Q4)His first film was The Last Days of Dolwyn. The film was released in which year of the 1940s?
Q5)1954 saw Burton perform in a BBC Radio production of Under Milk Wood. Who wrote Under Milk Wood: Thomas Charles, Dylan Thomas or Huw Dixon?
Q6)1963’s Cleopatra saw Burton play Mark Anthony. Who played Cleopatra in Cleopatra?
Q7)More to the point, who played Octavian, in Cleopatra?
Q8)Burton played Alex Leamas in The Spy Who Came In from the Cold. Who wrote the novel the film is based on: Frederick Forsyth, Ian Fleming or John le Carré?
Q9)His last TV appearance was in a 1984 series called Ellis Island. For many years, the island of the title processed what: immigrants to the US, imported food or oil?
Q10)Finally … ? Burton’s last film, Nineteen-Eighty-Four, was released after his death. In other words, it was released in which year?
Q1)9th November, 1867, saw the Tokugawa Shogunate hand back power. To whom: the Theocrat of Pan Tang, the Emperor of Japan or the Grand Mufti of Syria?
Q2)Prince George — the then Duke of Cornwall — was named as Prince of Wales: on 9th November, 1901. What name did he take as British King: George 4th, George 5th or Edward 8th?
Q3)The youngest person to become World Chess Champion, did so on 9th November, 1985, by beating Anatoly Karpov. Who was that champion: Nigel Short, Gary Kasparov or Bobby Fischer?
Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Hello, Mum. (It was George 5th, Mum, rather than Edward 8th. Edward 8th was invested as Prince of Wales in 1911, not 1901.)
† It was George 5th, Debbi, so you know! (Everyone’s got an Edward 8th thing going on, today!)
It’s not that weird, I think. Right at the moment … ? Hollywood’s got a lot of financial muscle: that helps them stay where they are, I think. It’s only Bollywood, or Nollywood, that can keep up.
Glad I could help with the address: I’ve mentioned I passed it on, to Gillian, Trevor’s sister.
Cheers for the mention, Debbi! (I could be wrong … but Victoria could be a Blake’s Seven fan … )

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
