Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-2-2025 — 2000AD

26th February, 2025: 2000ad.

It’s officially Wednesday.

And … ?

Stuff is, as they say, going on.

Or, at least, it will be going on: on Friday.

I’ve got my landlady heading over: to do an assessment for needed work in my kitchen.

I think I’m going to have to wipe some surfaces …

~≈🧽≈~

I’ve got the radio on, at the moment: and?

The presenters are interviewing a director: about the fact Demi Moore’s The Substance is heavily tipped for this year’s Oscars.

Apparently?

It’s the first horror film to get nominated: since The Silence of the Lambs.

I have to ask, though … is Silence a horror film?

I’d’ve called it a gruesome crime thriller, myself …

~≈💀≈~

Talking of films?

I tried sitting down with Alien: Romulus, last night.

And … ?

It’s well made, nicely acted, the effects are good.

The design work is very impressive.

The mixture of CGI, motion capture, AI deep fake technology and animatronics, used to recreate the late Ian Holm for the flick?

Very impressive: and scarier than the aliens.

But … ?

It really didn’t hold my attention.

That’s a shame: the world building is very good.

~≈👽≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Irene†, Mum‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Irene and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        2000AD was first published on 26th February, 1977.   Who was its original publisher: Condé Nast, IPC or Rebellion Publications?

Q2)        Who are its current publishers: Condé Nast, IPC or Rebellion Publications?

Q3)        Which character was on the cover of the first issue of 2000AD: MACH 1, Bill Savage or Judge Dredd?

Q4)        The first issue of 2000AD came with a free ‘space spinner’.   What was the ‘space spinner’: a frisbee, a sticker or a two foot machete?

Q5)        Finally … ?   True or False: 2000AD’s best known strip, Judge Dredd, first appeared in issue 1.   True or False?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Bill Paxton died on 25th February, 2017.   Which of the Earp brothers did he play, in Tombstone: Wyatt, Morgan or Virgil?
A1)        Morgan Earp.   (He also played the famously foul-mouthed, and panicky, Private Hudson in Aliens: the character’s iconic!)

Q2)        25th February, 1912, saw Marie-Adélaïde become the first female monarch of where: Luxembourg, Estonia or San Marino?
A2)        Luxembourg.   (She abdicated in 1919.)

Q3)        25th February is Revolution Day in Suriname.   Suriname is on which continent: North America or South America?
A3)        South America.

Q4)        25th February is the feast day of Saint Æthelberht of where: Kent, Essex or Surrey?
A4)        Kent.

Q5)        Finally … ?   25th February, 1975, saw the death of Elijah Muhammad. He’d been the leader of what: the Nation of Islam, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints or the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at?
A5)        The Nation of Islam.
Here’s a thought …
“The original logo and overall look of the comic were designed by art assistant Doug Church.”
From the Wikipedia article on 2000AD.
A clip of the comic’s best known character …

And an earworm …

The next ten question set is on 1st March: it’s about Ohio.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        A few years ago, now, Olga: I only know him through Aliens.   His character was so influential I think of similar ones as “… a bit of a Hudson.”
It sounds like Debbi’s had a better day!

I try my best, Irene: there’s a video version of each day’s quiz, in case you were interested!   (Olga and Debbi said ‘Hello’.)
(Oh, the correct answer was Morgan Earp, so you know.)

        Hello, Mum!

§        Well, at least there’s an upside, Debbi!
I might just have to do a set, there, Debbi: you don’t mind ten questions on that … ?

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
