In an overnight press conference, the US President has announced his intention to ‘… take over Gaza’: in what he’s called a “long term ownership position”.
And spoke of re-settling Palestinians in Egypt and Jordan.
The international reaction hasn’t been favourable, from what little I’ve seen,
To be honest?
Former real-estate developer that he is, I think he’s looking at this situation as a hotel builder’s paradise.
As something he, personally, can make money from.
And not as the political mess it actually is.
I have questions.
Is the man nuts?
Is he aware that he’s looks like a modern Hitler, demanding sovereign territory the US has no claim to?
† That sounds like an interesting series, Olga: vaguely like a satirical version of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers! Or possibly They Live …
I don’t know how many modern desktops come with optical discs, Olga: I think most computer makers are phasing them out as a way of reducing costs. But? There’s plenty of external ones you can get that will work with most computers. They come in handy for watching, and archiving, discs. Quite how I’ve picked up two, I don’t know§!
Oh, do you remember we got talking about digital ghosts, a while back? How people were creating or using AI chatbots that imitated lost loved ones? There’s a fascinating thing on Radio 4 about it …
‡ I try and assume nothing, Debbi¶! Oh … you should see who’s in the news!
§ The two I have, Olga, both contain a Pioneer BDR-UD04 drive in a case you can connect to your computer. The drive in question works well with MakeMKV.
The most recent one I got is this one. It’s expensive: but can read and burn 4k discs.
¶ I think I’ve mentioned it already, Debbi, but there was a joke doing the rounds when Reagan was in charge.
“What have the USA and McDonald’s got in common? They’re both run by a clown called Ronald.”
Q5) Torah Thanks for the link. I've saved it and will listen to it. I wonder if it might be something I might work through with Jordi at some point. Oh, by the way, here is my review of the book I mentioned about the App that sort of cloned your deceased loved ones... https://olganm.wordpress.com/2025/02/04/tuesdaybookblog-the-germans-have-a-word-for-it-by-t-r-thorsen-rbrt/ I have an optical drive I bought a long time ago because I got a small notebook years back and that didn't have one, and I needed (at the time) to download programmes, etc... I still have it, but it was cheap even then, so it isn't fantastic. It still works, though... Oh, and, indeed, the man is nuts, a narcissist, and... well many other things. None good. He isn't even funny. (To be honest, I don't think most dictators had a sense of humour. Franco definitely didn't, and by the sound of it, neither did Hitler or Mussolini, although Italians have always had a talent for performance and drama... ) I read a book set in the USA in the 1950s and they were talking about the McCarthy era and his eventual appearance in the senate, when Senator Joseph Welch asked him "have you no decency, Sir? At long last, have you no sense of decency left?" And I kept thinking that, Trump has never had a sense of decency, and what's worse, he's proud of it...
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
