Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13th March 2025.

13th March, 2025.

Yes: that’s right … !

It’s Thursday!

And I suspect that — on a personal front — it’s going to be a quiet one.

Unlike I do something drastic: like, I don’t know, make goulash!

Or spaghetti!

Or dinner … !

We’ll have to see what happens, there.

A little while back, MP, Mike Amesbury, was prosecuted for assault.

Famously, he was suspended from his party, and had an on-again, off-again, sentence.

Personally?   I’d’ve been happier if he’s done his ten week sentence: why should an MP, an MP who’s supposed to know better, not do time?

When his sentence was revised on appeal, it looked to me as if he were being let off because he was an MP.

At any rate … ?

He’s now announced he’s to stand down as an MP.

Good.

If you’re an MP, you’re supposed to serve your constituents … not assault people.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga†, Irene‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Mum, Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Irene on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s [insert number here] questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        13th March is Scout Day.   Where: Africa, Asia or Europe?

Q2)        13th March is also National Elephant Day.   Where: Thailand, India or Kenya?

Q3)        13th March is the Feast day of Saint Ansovinus.   He’s the patron saint of whom: gardeners, bricklayers or chefs?

Q4)        The Missionaries of Charity named Sister Nirmala as their new leader: on 13th March, 1997.   Who did she replace?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Uranus was discovered by William Herschal: on 13th March.   Of which year of the 1780s?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        12th March is the feast day of Saint Theophanes the what: Confessor, Confused or Complicated?
A1)        Theophanes the Confessor.   (Theophanes the Confused is marked in July.   The feast day of Theophanes the Complicated is … complicated.)

Q2)        12th March is Youth Day.   Where: Tunisia, Uganda or Zambia?
A2)        Zambia.

Q3)        12th March, 2015, saw the death of Terry Pratchett.   What was the name of his last Discworld novel?
A3)        The Shepards’s Crown.   (On my first reading of it, I got as far as the Dedication: and put it down. It was deeply upsetting.)

Q4)        Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic all joined NATO on 12th March, 1999.   They were former members of what: the League of Nations, the Warsaw Pact or UEFA?
A4)        The Warsaw Pact.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Truman Doctrine was first proclaimed: on 12th March, 1947. By which US president?
A5)        Harry S. Truman.
Here’s a thought …
“I have written with a very confused head from the affects of laudanum.”
From a letter to a friend, penned by Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey, 13 March 1764 – 17 July 1845.
And a song …

The next ten question set is tomorrow: it’s about Michael Caine.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

†        I’ve got the playlist bookmarked, Olga: at least I think I have!   Oh, talking of birds … ?   Be careful in Hertfordshire: that hawk has a thing for hats!

‡        Morning, Irene: sorry to mark you down, but the answer we needed was ‘Warsaw Pact’.

§        It’s a fascinating read, Debbi, I know that.   All I need know is Ronald Wayne’s biography and I’ve got the set.   Oh, as Olga And I have a bird thing going on … ?   Do you follow a YouTube channel called Girl Gone London?   She’s an American living in London: and has seagull issues …

I think this is the link, at least it seemed to work when I tried it. I've added another one today. It seems the little one will fly away when he reaches his 21st day, and it's growing quickly.

I am not surprised about the hawk. Who knows what they might think? I remember walking by the access to the underground and a pigeon tapping me on the head. That stop is by a small park and children's playground, and I must confess to looking around and thinking about Hitchcock's film, The Birds...

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
