Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17-3-2025 — Saint Patrick’s Day

17th March, 2025: Saint Patrick’s Day.

Right … words … … …

There have to be words, right?

That describes things, ideas, what have you.

The one I’ve got in mind is the word, ‘earworm’.

It’s the word used to describe a song — or a snatch of one — playing in your head.

I don’t have one: well, bar the usual Tammy Wynette/KLF tune, blasting through my head.

But I did wake up, this morning: with the word ‘Terpsichore’ — terp-SI-co-ry, if I’ve got the pronunciation, right — banging through my head.

Why … ?

I have no idea.

Beyond catching a clip from the film, Xanadu, yesterday.

Olivia Newton-John plays a version of the figure: which — I think! — is what put the word in my head.

My point, in the midst of all this rambling?

Is this: ‘earworm’ is the word for a song that’s stuck in your head.

What on Earth is the word for a word that’s stuck in your head … ?

I’m blowed if I know.

~≈😶≈~

All that … ?

Is, possibly, besides the point.

It’s Monday.

And, as ever, I’m up early.

It’s officially weight management day.

So?

It has to be said: it’s not in its usual room at Merrymeades, today: it’s upstairs.

Apparently, there’s a slipper swop in the usual room.

I might have to take my ratty old pair along: to see what happens!

~≈👣≈~
Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

The day also saw Olga‡ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        17th March is Saint Patrick’s Day.   It’s a public holiday in which of the UK’s home nations?

Q2)        That part of the UK is on the island of where?

Q3)        Saint Patrick’s Day has been officially marked as a public holiday in what’s now the Republic of Ireland, since when: 1901, 1903 or 1904?

Q4)        Saint Patrick’s Chapel is on the grounds of Glastonbury Abbey.   Glastonbury Abbey is in which English county: Somerset, Wiltshire or Gloucestershire?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Colcannon is a traditional Irish dish.   Made out of mashed potato and what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        16th March is the 75th day of 2025.   Is 75 a prime number?
A1)        No: it is — at the very least — divisible by three, five, fifteen and twenty-five.

Q2)        Messier 75 is a globular cluster.   In which constellation: Orion, Sagittarius or the Great Bear?
A2)        Sagittarius.

Q3)        The M75 Highway is a state highway.   Where: Michigan, Maryland or Manhattan?
A3)        Michigan.

Q4)        The A75 in in which country of the UK: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales?
A4)        Scotland.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Vespasian became a Roman Consul, when: 75BC or AD75?
A5)        AD75.
Here’s a thought …
“Patrick was never formally canonised by the Catholic Church, having lived before the current laws it established for such matters.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the Saint.
And a song …

The next ten question set is on the 3rd April: it’s about 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum§!

That we do, Debbi§, that we do!

Aren’t they just, Olga§?   The crunch will be tomorrow, I think: that’s when the announcement’s scheduled.

§        Irene said to say “Hello”!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
