Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 22nd April 2025
22nd April, 2025.
Right … I can hear whirring.
“Whirring”, you say?
Yes: whirring.
As the optical drive that currently holds a disc from the The War Game In Colour works with MakeMKV: to turn the disc’s contents into digital files.
I’m …
Have mixed feelings about the thing.
Much like the The Daleks In Colour boxset released a few years ago, this boxset includes the original DVD version of the story the colourised edition is a version of.
And, like The Daleks In Colour, that broadcast version is in the original 4:3, 704 × 576, resolution seen in 1966.
Like I say, I have mixed feelings about that.
Including that DVD version means I can re-rip the thing: and end up with a better quality, digital copy.
But … ?
It also means the BBC have missed the chance to upscale this original version to a 16:9 resolution that would work better on modern TVs.
Heigh … ho!

Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga†, and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1)22nd April, 2023, saw the death of Len Goodman. He was head judge on which British TV show: Strictly Come Dancing, Dancing on Ice or Britain’s Got Talent?
Q2)22nd April is Discovery Day: in which South American country?
Q3)The Paris Agreement was signed on 22nd April, 2016. The Agreement is supposed to reduce what: global warming, the hole in the ozone layer or Land mine use?
Q4)J. Robert Oppenheimer was born on 22nd April, 1904. He was known as the “father of the atomic what”?
Q5)Finally … ? Jack Nicholson was born on 22nd April, 1937. He, Heath Ledger and Jared Leto, have all played which comic book villain?
Q1)21st April is the feast day of Saint Anastasius Sinaita. The monastery he was an abbot of, was on which mountain: Mount Sinai, Mount Saint Helens, or Mount Everest?
† Oh, crikey, Snoopy’s version! I have vague memories of seeing the animated version, when I was young, Olga. But it’s the song I remember, more than anything: “Ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty or more!”
I think I know what you mean about education, as well. I can remember one customer I met, whilst working in what’s now the Hutton Junction. She’d never heard the word flat, or realised it could be used to describe what she called an ‘apartment’. She was English, and had a very posh accent: and made the late Queen sound like Alf Garnett! I don’t think it’s just working class Americans that have an issue.
Wish your mother a belated happy birthday, for me!
‡ Hopefully, today’s are the same, Debbi! Oh … tomorrow’s the next ten questions set: if it’s any help, there’s a literary theme!
Q5) The Joker Thanks, Paul. Mother is having problems with her feet (she used to wear very high heels when she was younger and they've taken a toll, for sure, although I know even wearing sensible shoes one cannot be sure of not having problems), so we didn't do much yesterday, although we went for some short walks, she got a plant, a mini cake, and we got some take out food as well. You're right about education, of course. Some upper classes live in parallel universes and don't know what the real world is like.
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
