Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th April, 2025.

7th April, 2025.

It’s Monday morning, again.

The inevitability of the week tumbling around from one day to the next, grinding like a millstone: oppressing all with its mundanity.

Humanity can only rail against the inevitability of time’s passing.

Wait … what?

I’m sorry, I seem to have turned into Mr Doomy!

Heigh-ho … !

~≈🌧️≈~

At any rate … ?

It’s Monday: which means that — however doomy I get — I’m up early to head for my weight management group.

Hopefully?

I’ll’ve lost more weight: carrying on last week’s trend would be nice.

~≈𐄷≈~

On other fronts … ?

MakeMKV — the disc copying software I use — has now had a patch issued: to correct the flaw that prevented me, and others, copying and decrypting blurays.

Which, going by the relevant thread on the forum … ?

Was also affecting some Windows machine.

I have to give credit to the team behind the software.

They’ve worked incredibly fast to correct a flaw.

Well done, them!

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s [insert number here] questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        7th April saw the publication of RFC 1.   It’s generally seen as marking the birth of what: the space age, the internet or archeology?

Q2)        It was published in which year of the 1960s?

Q3)        7th April saw President Carter announce the US would postpone building what: neutron bombs, thermobaric bombs or sarin gas?

Q4)        7th April, 2025, is a Monday.   It was last a Monday in which year?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Computer pioneer, Sir Clive Sinclair, sold his computer business on 7th April, 1986.   To whom: Amstrad, Microsoft or Acorn?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        John Tyler was sworn in as the 10th President of the USA, on 6th April, 1841: on the death of the 9th President.   Who was that 9th President: Andrew Jackson, Martin van Buren or William Henry Harrison?
A1)        William Henry Harrison.

Q2)        A coup occurred on 6th April, 1985.   In which African nation: Sudan, Ethiopia or Libya?
A2)        Sudan.

Q3)        6th April, 2021, saw the death of Hans Küng.   He’d been a notable what: theologian, physicist or cheese maker?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Caecilius Pius Scipio and Cato the Younger were defeated in the Battle of Thapsus: on 6th April, 46BC.   By whose army: Julius Caesar’s, Augustus Caesar’s or Tiberius Caesar’s?
A5)        Julius Caesar’s.
Here’s a thought …
“It is my hope that the property that kind Providence has brought me may be helpful to many others, and that I may be found a faithful steward.”
Will Keith Kellogg, April 7, 1860 – October 6, 1951.
A song …

And an earworm …

The next ten question set will be on 9th April: it’s about Paul Robeson.

To avoid your answers being copied, they will be published tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I think I’ve shared the most recent on, Olga§!   And the update to MakeMKV seems to have gone well.   I can only hope it survives Apple’s next update!   (The developer team must have been drinking a lot of strong coffee: they worked fast!)

        Hello, Mum§!

‡        “And so it goes”?   That’s a Vonnegut quote, isn’t it, Debbi§?   I keep meaning to read Slaughterhouse 5.

§        Just so everyone knows, the picture tells you when the next ten question sets are.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
