Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th May 2025

4th May, 2025.

Dear lord … but I was up late!

The perils of review making don’t get any easier, the older you get.

Whatever!

If nothing else, though … ?

I can say I’ve posted written and video reviews of “Lucky Day”.

And seen quite a good episode!

~≈📺≈~

It’s possibly something I’ll have on in the background … but it seems Mark Williams has got through to Snooker’s World Championship finals.

That starts at noon: and should be interesting.

It sees the Welsh veteran go up against newcomer,  Zhao Xintong.

I can’t help but think Zhao will do very well.

Either way … ?

It seems both players are left-handed.

Speaking as an armchair snooker fan, an armchair snooker fan who’s also a southpaw?

I’m happy to see that!

~≈😀≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Irene† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Irene and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s five question set, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        4th May, 1924, saw the death of Edith Nesbit.   She wrote a 1902 novel called Five Children and what?

Q2)        Bartolomeo Cristofori was born on 4th May, 1655.   He’s generally credited with inventing what: the saxophone, the piano or the acoustic guitar?

Q3)        The Imperial Theatrical School was founded: on 4th May, 1738.   It’s a ballet school, where: Russia, Poland or Estonia?

Q4)        4th May is the feast day of Saint Judas Cyriacus: the patron saint of Ancona.   Where is Ancona: Spain, Portugal or Italy?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Thomas Huxley was born on 4th May, 1825. Because of his support for the theory of evolution, he’s known as whose bulldog?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        3rd May, 1968, saw a team of surgeons led by Dr Donald Ross carry out the UK’s first what: lung transplant, face transplant or heart transplant?
A1)        Heart transplant.

Q2)        A new Japanese constitution went into effect on 3rd May.   Of which year of the 1940s?
A2)        1947.

Q3)        A school shooting took place on 3rd May, 2023.   In which Serbian city: Belgrade, Novi Sad or Niš?   (Niš is pronounced nish.)
A3)        Belgrade.

Q4)        3rd May is World Press what Day: Press Freedom Day, Press Association Day or Press Your Buttons Day?
A4)        Press Freedom Day.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Festival of Britain was opened on 3rd May, 1951: by the UK’s then King.   Who was that king?
A5)        George 6th.
Here’s a thought …
“A man has no reason to be ashamed of having an ape for his grandfather.”
Thomas Huxley, 4 May, 1825 – 29 June 1895.
And a song …

I forgot that: Dick Dale, was also a southpaw.

The next ten question set will be on 15th May: it’s about Mike Oldfield.

Your answers will be published tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   Happy Birthday … !

Morning, Irene, how IS the day … ?

About the model of drive, or how to store them, Debbi?
Hmmm … I’d suggest an SSD, Debbi: you can copy and paste stuff to them more quickly.   On the downside, they’re more expensive.   Western Digital and Seagate do good external hard drives: Crucial do good solid state drives.
Um … are you still on a Mac, Debbi … ?   Because moving photos is comparatively easy: drag your Photos Library to the external drive, delete the original, then restart Photos whilst holding the Option/Alt button and picking the relevant Library.
        On Windows or Linux … ?   I wouldn’t know where to start … !

  2. Still on a Mac. A MacBook Pro.

Hopefully, I have enough storage to handle that.

    Thanks!

And happy birthday to your mum. :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
