* Hello, Mum! (Have you uploaded the street party photos to Facebook, Mum?)
† That queue must have been something to see, Olga¶! The Lord of the Rings has passionate fans: and equally passionate cosplayers. I’d love to be able to go in costume — I’m the right height for a dwarf, but too tall for a hobbit! — but wouldn’t have the patience to make the costume.
Oh, and The Rocky Horror Show is quite the thing to catch: last time I went, Anthony Stewart Head — the coffee ad chap? Giles from Buffy?— was playing Frank N Furter: he’s got the legs for fishnets.
‡ Morning, Irene: how IS the day … ?
§ Perry Mason, Debbi: or The Three Investigators! I had a copy of The Mystery of the Silver Spider, somewhere! (There used to sell them in a bookshop on Ongar Road: that’s now a tattooist … I think!)
¶ If I’ve understood Tolkien’s universe correctly, Olga? The dwarves are supposed to have an average height of around 5’. The hobbits, by contrast, are about 3’6” to 4’. Elves were supposed to be about 6’ to 7’: and referred to the dwarves as Naugrim, the ‘stunted ones’. (I think the plural of naugrim is naugrimir, but can’t find a reference for that.)
Q5) 9th May Elves always look very tall, graceful, and "white", as least the representations I've seen. Mind you, I've never read one of the books, although I have friends who are big fans. I saw your mention of the Three Investigators and I remember the books with fondness, although I don't think there were very many, at least available in translation here.
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
