Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-6-2025 — El-Pee

21st June, 2025: El Pee.

Right … it’s official: it’s Saturday.

And the longest day of the year.

Frankly?

I think I’m going to go back to bed: I had something of a late night, last night.

I had visitors, let’s put it that way!

~≈🥱≈~

You possibly aware that an Assisted Dying bill has been going through Parliament: and that it faced its Third Reading, its final stage, in the UK’s House of Commons, yesterday.

It passed*: and will go to its final stages in the House of Lords in the near future.

And should be law by 2029

Personally?

Whilst I felt struggled with the idea of assisted dying when I first head of it?

It’s something I came to support: especially given how vocal the late Sir Terry Pratchett was about it.

So … ?

I’m glad it’s gone through.

Regardless of how you or I feel about it, the fact the bill approving it has passed this stage means assisted dying will be legally available in due time.

That’s a good thing, I think.

~≈💊≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum†, Olga‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s LP-themed question set, shall we?

Here it is, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The LP record was introduced on 21st June.   Of which year of the 1940s?

Q2)        LP stands for Long … what?

Q3)        The format was introduced by Columbia …who?   (I’m going to be picky on this one.)
Q4)        The record was usually how many inches across: twelve, fourteen or sixteen?
Q5)        Finally … ?   LPs were usually made of PVC.   In other words, of polyvinyl what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        20th June, AD1180, saw the start of the First Battle of Uji.   The battle took place in which country: China, Japan or Thailand?
A1)        Japan.

Q2)        5261 Eureka was discovered: on 20th June, 1990.   It’s a what: moon, asteroid or comet?
A2)        Asteroid.

Q3)        Cricketer, James Burns, was born on 20th June, 1866.   He played for which county side: Essex, Somerset or Kent?
A3)        Essex.

Q4)        20th June, 1972, saw an eighteen and a half minute gap, found: in tape recordings made by which US president?
A4)        President Nixon.

Q5)        Martin Landau was born on 20th June, 1928.   He played Bela Lugosi in which 1994 film?
A5)        Ed Wood.   (Landau may not have known it: but you can sing about Bela Lugosi … )
Here’s a thought …
“LP was originally a trademark of Columbia and competed against the smaller 7-inch sized ‘45’ or ‘single’ format by RCA Victor, eventually ending up on top.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the LP.
And a potted history …

The next ten question set is on 26th June: it’s about Harry Potter.

Comments and answers will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Brentwood’s MP, Alex Burghart, voted against the bill.   I have never voted Conservative: and don’t intend to.   His position on this doesn’t encourage me to do so.

        Hello, Mum!

The mild irony, Olga?   Is that the internet is mostly powered by Linux servers: so it’s not like there’s not examples of how to do things!
As for the IT team at Iman’s job?   Bloodymindedness probably doesn’t start!   (I had to use Outlook at one of my jobs: the dratted thing uses semi-colons to separate email addresses, rather than commas Mail.app uses.   You can imagine my reaction, can’t you?)

§        I think something similar happened with Monsters, Debbi.   They used portable video cameras rather than phones, but viewed the rushes, and did a lot of editing, on MacBook Pros.

I hope you have a nice weekend. Here, we celebrate St. John's day, the 24th of June, and there are parties, with fireworks and coca (a sweet typical of the area) on St John's Eve, so, as the 24th is a bank holiday, there are a lot of people who're taking the Monday off, but it is very hot as well. There will be plenty of noise with the fireworks, and heat and fireworks don't mis too well, but...

  2. Oh, about the Assisted Dying Bill. I'm in favour of the idea (here there is a law about it as well, and it's been in place for a few years), although I've read that many people are concerned about the law itself, and the lack of guarantees. It seems psychiatrists are worried that depressed people might just decide they want to die when they are clinically depressed, and they might improve with treatment and feel differently. I don't know the details of the law, though.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
