Here’s a pair of thoughts …
“War is the greatest of all agents of change. It speeds up all processes, wipes out minor distinctions, brings realities to the surface.”
From “The English Revolution”, Pt 3 of The Lion and the Unicorn, by George Orwell.
“… a world in which it is wrong to murder an individual and right to drop a thousand tons of high explosive on a residential area does sometimes make me wonder whether this planet of ours is not a loony-bin made use of by some other planet.”
From “As I Please”, Tribune, George Orwell.
And a song …
The next ten question set is tomorrow: it’s about Harry Potter.
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Embrace, extend, and extinguish was a policy originally developed by Microsoft: it was a “strategy for entering product categories involving widely used open standards, extending those standards with proprietary capabilities, and using the differences to strongly disadvantage its competitors.”
† Hello, Mum!
‡ Yes, I knew about the eyesight issues, Olga¶: I believe it’s part of the patient information leaflet we get with the drug. Or, at least, was mentioned in early news reports. I asked my pharmacist about it, if I recall: who assured the risk were there, but very low.
That said? My eyes were good enough at my last retinopathy check, that they decided to do my checks every two years, rather than annually.
§ ‘Good’ is understating it, Debbi¶!
¶ Debbi, Olga, did I mention I’ve got Bowie’s “Absolute Beginners” on in the background? That is still his best song … !
Q5) Ireland I like Absolute Beginners, although Blue Jeans and This Is Not America are also favourites of mine. I love the quotes, especially the second one. The world is a loony bin indeed, and the lunatics are running the asylum, and not doing a very good job of it. (Mind you, the Orange One is a narcissistic psychopath rather than a lunatic as such, not that psychopathy is a real diagnosis, but... it is a good tool to identify risk, and he is dangerous). Oh, I keep meaning to tell you about the birds. It is all quite weird. I posted a video because I thought I saw something moving, but when the little ones are very small it is difficult to see. And a day or two later, the nest was empty, and no parents or anybody else has appeared since. So, either I imagined it and the eggs (if there were eggs) never got past that stage, or something happened to the little one. I don't know if they will come back, but this episode doesn't seem to have ended happily.
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.

It is an excellent song!
