I’ve got a blu-ray on order: of the classic 1980s comedy, The Young Ones.
Why?
Especially given it’s on the BBC iPlayer? And I bought a streamed version through Apple’s TV.app?
Well …
One: the version on the iPlayer is edited to remove language now considered offensive. The streamed version hasn’t. I’m hoping the bluray version hasn’t, either.
Two?
The blu-ray version has extras both the TV.app and iPlayer version doesn’t.
Finally, three … ?
I’ve been watching the science-fiction/horror series, Alien: Earth, just recently.
The series features Adrian Edmondson — Vyvyan, from The Young Ones — as a corporate heavy.
I’ve had Vyvyan’s “I don’t want my forehead to rust” line banging through my head, since I started watching it!
Argh!

I have to admit, I can see why the … …
Actually, no I can’t: I can’t see why the iPlayer version’s been cut.
Well … I know why: it’s some offensive language in the episode, “Flood”.
Which has always struck me as mildly hypocritical of the BBC.
Especially when the iPlater release of Porridge released on iPlayer at the same sort of time as The Young Ones, just had a content warning: rather than heavy handed editing!
Heigh-ho!

Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga†, Irene‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Mum, Olga and Debbi scoring ten out of ten, and Irene on seven.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1)6th September, 2025, is the 249th day of the year. Is 249 odd, or even?
Q2)Is 249 a prime number?
Q3)249 is CCXLIX. In what: Mayan numerals, Roman numerals or hieroglyphs?
Q4)The A249 is in England. It’s in which English county: Essex, Kent or Surrey?
Q5)Finally … ? № 249 Squadron (RAF) was formed in 1918: and operated during World War Two. During the Battle of Britain, a pilot from the Squadron was the only Fighter Command pilot to be awarded a what: George Cross, Victoria Cross or Distinguished Service Medal?
Q5)On the Road features a character called Carlo Marx. Carlo Marx was based on whom: William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg or Neal Cassady?
A5)Allen Ginsberg. (The book’s other main character, Dean Moriarty, was based on Neal Cassady.)
Q6)The writer typed the book’s first draft on what he called ‘the scroll’. In other words, on a length of paper that was how long: thirty-five meters, thirty-seven meters or thirty-nine meters?
† A hibernating camera? There’s possibly a comic book in the idea, Olga! At any rate, I’ve picked up some new lighbulbs from Sainsbury’s. Their’s were cheaper than the ones on Amazon: and will hopefully last … …
Hang on … just cheese sandwiches? I might have to read the thing, just to see how they managed that: the US is a big country …
‡ Morning, Irene: how is the day? (Did you have trouble logging in, yesterday … ?)
§ Glad to be able to help, Debbi! (Remind me to mention The Young Ones, at some point … … )
Q5) Victoria Cross It is worth a read. And yes, supermarkets have good deals on these kinds of things sometimes. I've gone to pound shops for light bulbs sometimes. The quality varies, but it is a bit what happens with women's tights, that the quality and the price don't always match...

There's a show from Britain called Misfits that we've been watching. One of the actors has such a thick (Scottish, maybe?) accent, we need the closed captions. :) But it's such a great show and concept.
This happens more often than I care to admit. :) Accents! They're so cool, but ... I worry sometimes that I'll have a guest on my podcast that I can't decipher. :)
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
