It’s officially official: I’ve got a double-ended thingie!
To put it more sensibly?
I’ve got a recently acquired, double-ended, USB stick.
One that has a USB-c port at one end, and a USB-a port at the other.
Which was handy, I felt: it meant I could plug the thing into my Mac mini’s USB-c ports, copy something to it, then give the thing to someone who’s laptop only has USB-a ports.
That way … ? They can copy it their machine, and not have to worry too much about compatibility.
What I’d totally forgotten?
Was that technology moves.
And that, for several years, mobile phones have come equipped with what’s called USB OTG, USB on-the-go, capabilities.
In other words?
You can also plug a USB OTG capable stick into a mobile phone — or tablet — with a USB-c port, and copy things to and from the phone.
That’s handy.

As a quick, extra thought, there?
My phone is an Oppo A40, running a version of Android.
I have to switch on the OTG capabilities by going into Settings>Accessibility & Convenience>OTG Connection.
One of the volunteers at my weight management group was interested in seeing this work.
They have to go through the file explorer on their Android phone.
But with much the same results: it’s show up in the relevant drop down.
As I’ve not had a chance to see it work on an iPhone?
I couldn’t tell you if it works on them.
I’m assuming it does: especially as I know there’s similar, Lightning port equipped sticks that should work with older iPhones.
And that newer iPhones have USB-c ports.
But, as I say, it’s not something I’ve been able to check for myself.

As a final thought … ?
I found out that I’ve put on a couple of hundred grams, since last week’s weigh-in.
But?
Am still under one hundred kilos.
That, and finding out something new?
Was welcome.

Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Irene‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Olga, Irene and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on three.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1)Saint Osgyth’s day is on 7th October. Saint Osgyth is a cephalophor. In other words, she’s traditionally depicted, carrying her own what: leg, arm or head?
Q2)The treaty that created the Dual Alliance was signed on 7th October, 1879. The Alliance was an alliance between the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and where: Germany, France or the UK … ?
Q3)Cissy Houston died on 7th October, 2024. She died some twelve years after her famous daughter. Who was her daughter.
Q4)7th October is International what Day: International Banana Day, International Hedgehog Day or International Cotton Day?
Q5)Finally … ? Cricketer, Jack Russell, was born on 7th October, 1887. Was the Jack Russell Terrier named after him?
Q2)6th October is also the day members of the Anglican Communion mark the death of William Tyndale. Tyndale was one of the first people to translate what into English?
A2)TheBible. (Strictly speaking, he only translated the New Testament, and the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Old Testament, into a form of English. However, it’s seen as very influential on the shape of Modern English.)
Q3)Euridice had its premiere on 6th October, 1600. Euridice is the earliest known what to have survived: opera, play or ballet?
* It went well enough, Olga: all things considered. I got to learn something, even if I gained an ounce or two. I don’t know if your phone’s on-the-go capable, but it could be handy if it is …
Sunshine’s always good, this time of year, isn’t it … ?
† Hello, Mum! (Euridice was an opera, Mum, not a play! And Jarrod Moseley plays golf!)
‡ Good morning, Irene, how IS the day? Oh, the chap that did today’s earworm has also don a song about a badger!
§ It’s possibly going through the cell network, Debbi: it won’t go through the wi-fi, if the router’s acting up!
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
