Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-11-2025 — World Diabetes Day

14th November, 2025: World Diabetes Day.

Bugger!

I had an extremely funny introductory video done for today’s post!

One full of wit, humour, and satirical observations about politics!

But … ?

But I managed to bin it, and empty the bin, before Time Machine managed to back up my system, and save it.

Remind me to no kick myself: I’d miss!

The BBC’s been covering it all morning.

Seemingly?

Sky TV are to start broadcasting a UK version of the venerable US comedy series, Saturday Night Live: and are assembling the team as we speak.

It may do well …

But … ?

I think Saturday Live/Friday Night Live— the UK series that made stars out of many UK comics — has been forgotten in all the excitement.

Just so everyone knows?

I’ve got two ten question sets due: on the 5th and 17th, of December.

And have just finished the twelve question review of 2025: due on the 31st December.

Hopefully, you’ll enjoy them!

As a final thought … ?

You’ll remember I’ve objections to the Government’s proposed Digital ID scheme?

I’ve objections to the Government’s proposed Digital ID scheme: mostly based on cost.

There’s some good news about it: the petition on the UK government’s website has had something of an effect.

The proposal will be discussed in the House of Commons on 8th December, this year.

Hopefully, the whole silly idea will be scrapped.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Debbi† and Irene‡ putting in their answers: with Mum and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Irene on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        14th November is World Diabetes Day.   The version marked on World Diabetes Day is what: Diabetes mellitus or Diabetes insipidus?

Q2)        Diabetic nephropathy is caused by diabetes.   It’s a condition of the human what: lungs, kidneys or liver?

Q3)        Diabetics are prone to Hyperglycemia.   In other words, to high levels of what in the blood: glucose, oxygen or globulin?

Q4)        Diabetes is caused by low levels of a hormone: or by resistance to the same hormone.   Which hormone: insulin, leptin or orexin?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Who would develop gestational diabetes: men or women?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        13th November is the feast day of the Hundred Thousand Martyrs of Tbilisi.   Tbilisi is in which country: Armenia, Azerbaijan or Georgia?
A1)        Georgia.

Q2)        More to the point?   The Martyrs are saints to whom: the Georgian Orthodox Church, Roman Catholic Church or the Patriarchal Exarchate for Orthodox Parishes of Russian Tradition in Western Europe?
A2)        The Georgian Orthodox Church.   (Apparently, it’s full name is the ‘Apostolic Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Georgia’.)

Q3)        Louis 7th married Adela of Champagne: on 13th November, 1160.   Louis was King of where: France, Belgium or Spain?
A3)        France.   (His first marriage was to Elenor of Aquitaine, was annulled in 1152.   If I recall …   Elenor wasn’t someone to annoy …)

Q4)        John Braid saw a demonstration of animal magnetism on 13th November, 1841: and decided to work on the technique as a result.   What did he call it?
A4)        Hypnotism.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Anarchist, Léon Léauthier stabbed Rista Georgevitch: on 13th November, 1893.   It’s seen as a founding event in the history of modern what: anarchism, terrorism or jihadism?
A5)        Terrorism.
Here’s a thought …
“Type 2 diabetes accounts for almost 90% of all cases of diabetes in adults worldwide.”
From Diabetes in numbers by Tony Scully.
And an Adam Sandler song …

The next ten question set is on 5th December: it’s about The Great Smog!

Your comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided, when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

I hope it’s going well, Debbi!

Morning, Irene!   (The correct answer was hypnotist, rather than mesmerism.)

  3. I haven't watched SNL in years. :)

And, of course, we steal our comedy from you guys!

You're much funnier. Love British humour, which manages to translate into humor, but only roughly. :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
