Q4)On the region’s coat of arms, Castile is represented by a yellow castle. León is represented by a purple what: cheese wheel, lion or bee?
A4)Lion. Wikipedia tells me that León’s name comes from the the Latin word, ‘legio’, the Roman word for a legion. I’m assuming the town of León was a Roman outpost. (As a minor point, the castle in the coat of arms isn’t yellow: its heraldic name is or, or gold: purple is purpure. You have to love heraldry.)
Q5)Castile and León is a what: region, county or autonomous community?
Q6)Does Castile and León have a named capital: yes, or no?
A6)No. (Although the regional government, and regional parliament, are in Valladolid, the region’s upper court is in Burgos, the Court of Audits is in Palencia and the Ombudsman in León.)
Q7)Whet’s the region’s official language?
A7)Spanish. (If I’ve understood things, correctly, Modern Spanish is also called Castilian Spanish, as it evolved in Castile: part of the modern region.)
Q8)Roughly 20, 000 to 50, 000 people speaking what: Castilian Spanish, Leonese or Basque?
“I can’t define longevity. I don’t know what it means.”
Shirley MacLaine, born April 24, 1934.

* Hello, Mum! (It was Léonese and wine regions, rather than Basque and beers!)
†Actually, it’s ‘no’, Debbi, as the region has no official capital. Regional government functions are split between Valladolid Burgos, Palencia and León. (‘Valladolid’ is a mouthful!)
I know there’s been a few movies of Day of the Triffids, Debbi: and of The Midwich Cuckoos. I think the only film that got anywhere near to the original novel was the George Sanders cut of Village of the Damned.
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
