Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11-5-2026 — The Istanbul Convention

11th May, 2026: the Istanbul Convention.

Yes: it’s another Monday morning.

And the start of the last week before pay-day!

Which means … ?

Being thankful I’ve just enough change for me to get the bus uphill: to get to my weight management meeting.

But feeling slightly glum.

As I always do in this last few days before money goes in the bank.

Hopefully?

I’ll find out if I’ve lost weigh, today: that usually helps my mood.

~≈⚖️≈~

Just as a quick thought … ?

I’ve Meatloaf’s Bat out of Hell album on in the background.

After all this time?

It’s still one hell of an LP.

“You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth” has one of the funniest openings of any song I’ve heard.

~≈🦇≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s six question set, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The Istanbul Convention was signed on 11th May.   Of which year: 2011, 2013 or 2015?

Q2)        It was signed in Istanbul. Istanbul is which country?

Q3)        It was signed by members of what: the European Union, the Council of Europe or the African League?

Q4)        Turkey denounced the Treaty.   In which year: 2019, 2021 or 2023?

Q5)        The Treaty is designed to prevent violence against whom: men, women or children?

Q6)        Finally … ?   The Treaty is designed to prevent domestic what: violence, murder or cheese?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Fred Astaire was born on 10th May.   Of which year of the 1890s?
A1)        1899.

Q2)        Who was Fred’s best known dance partner: Madonna, Mae West or Ginger Rogers?
A2)        Ginger Rogers.   (Ginger did everything Fred did: only backwards and in high heels … )

Q3)        Fred’s said to have been an influence on which dance style: American Smooth, Pasodoble or the Tango … ?
A3)        American Smooth.

Q4)        In 1979, Fred played Chameleon.   In which TV show: Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Battlestar Galactica or Logan’s Run?
A4)        Battlestar Galactica.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Fred’s last film was Ghost Story.   Ghost Story was released in which year: 1981, 1983 or 1985?
A5)        1981.
Here’s a thought …
“The convention aims at prevention of violence, victim protection and to end the impunity of perpetrators.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the Convention.
A video …

And an earworm …

The next ten question sets will be on the 17th, 26th and 31st May, and on 3rd June: they’re about Dennis Potter, Miles Davis, Trinity Sunday and Liverpool football club.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (It was Battlestar Galactica rather than Logan’s Run, Mum!)

It’s funny how that ‘Backwards and Heels’ line gets around, Debbi!
Yeah: there’s a few things doing the rounds, Debbi: in the 2024 General election, there was at least one candidate caught saying illegal immigrants should be shot when they got off the boat, another who called for a burka ban in the House, and a third being investigated over racist tweets.
Fred cropped up in an episode called “The Man with Nine Lives”, Debbi: playing a con-man called Chameleon.   Apparently, he’d asked the producers if he could appear in it, as his grandchildren were fans.   (I can’t see Gene Kelly doing that.)

  2. Gene Kelly as con man? Hmm ... maybe?

He'd be an acrobatic con man, for sure. :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
