Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th June, 2026.
24th June, 2026.
OK … we have a hot day ahead of us, today!
Going by the predictions for my area, the one on the BBC’s weather website, we’re looking at highs of 34ºC.
And have a red heat warning going into force at 9am, this morning.
It’s going to be toasty, in other words.
Bottled water is going to be needed, I think.
Avoiding alcohol would be a good idea, too.
Alcoholic Drinks are whats called diuretics: they make you urinate, in other words, and leave you dehydrated.
Ever wonder why drinking too much is known as ‘getting pissed’ in British English?
Now you know.
Lay off the hard stuff in this weather!

I managed to read this piece, yesterday: one that tells us the UK’s government is planning to consult on turning terrestrial TV.
Or, at least, turn off the digital signal.
That’s … …
That’s sort of inevitable, given the rise of streaming services.
The article also tells us that there’s plans — possible plans — to introduced more subsidised internet connections, ones that would be needed for internet broadcast TV.
That’s a good thing: I know plenty of people without a ’net connection, who could only afford one if they had financial help.
The scheme — for a mandatory digital ID for job seekers — meant users would need a smart phone for the thing.
In the case of at least one person I know, they would need help to buy said phone, AND set it up.
This seems to have similar issues: I know a few people who could afford a subsidised connection … but couldn’t afford a streaming box, let alone a new TV.
Whether it was smart or otherwise.
Yes: turning off the digital terrestrial TV signal could be inevitable.
But?
People are going To need help buying the kit.

Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1)24th June, 1622, saw Dutch forces attempt to take Macau. Macau is now part of where: China, Taiwan or Japan?
Q2)The United Grand Lodge of England was formed on 24th June, 1717. In a tavern called what: the Bird and Baby, the Goose and Gridiron or the Cheese and Onion?
Q3)The Constitution of 1793 was adopted on 24th June, 1793. In which European country: Spain, France or Italy?
Q4)Kenneth Arnold made the first reported sighting of a UFO on 24th June. Of which year: 1945, 1947 or 1949?
Q5)Finally … ? Brian Johnston was born on 24th June, 1912. He commented on which sport: football, cricket, horse-racing or rugby union?
A5)Leave. (I voted to Remain: and feel leaving the EU was — and still is — the biggest mistake we’ve ever made. Especially since — if we decide to rejoin — we would have to adopt the Euro, under the EU’s current membership rules. We’d have to give up the Pound, a reserve currency that gives us some international clout, as a result of rejoining.)
Here’s a thought …
“I love doing things that may not be everybody else’s cup of tea.”
Michele Lee, born 24th June, 1942.
And a Jeff Beck song …
The next 10 question sets are on 1st July, 4th July, 5th July, 11th and 13th July: they’re about New Brunswick, Independence Day, Nemesis the Warlock, World Horse Day and “I Don’t Like Mondays”.
Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’sTeaser.
AI is avoided when writing these questions.
Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Hello, Mum! (It was actually Gibraltar, Mum, rather than the Irish Republic.)
† It’s where Ace hits things with a baseball bat, isn’t it, Debbi?
Hi, Paul. Sorry but things are a bit weird here. Some days I have more time than others, but it is nothing regular, and not reliable either. But I thought I'd come and say hello at least. I hope you are Ok with the heat. They've been talking about it here (my friend Iman, in Paris, is also boiling there, although she's from Egypt, so not a new experience for her), and it is hot as well, but not quite as bad as in other parts of Spain (although I'm not taking my mother out in the middle of the day. The problem is that she isn't very good in the mornings, and that means we can only go out in the late evening. And no air conditioning at home either, so we live with fans and with the blinds down, to avoid the worst of the heat. I've carried on dealing with paperwork, doing lessons with Jordi (although he had been on holiday for about a month and only came back this Monday) and helping out a bit at the radio station, but not as much as before, because my mother is more disoriented and I don't want to leave her alone for too long. Also, I never know how she's going to be at any point (I had to cancel a couple of things last minute because she wasn't well), so things that need to be coordinated or happen at a particular time and date are complicated for me. So... Not that many events that are flexible enough for a news programme. I managed to convince her to use a walker, as she cannot walk very far because of pain in her leg, and this way she can sit down and have a rest whenever she needs. And it is more stable. Her memory is worsening, and I am worried because yesterday she didn't remember my name, and today she thought I was her mother. The social services had suggested that she attend a day centre for a few hours, but she is not keen on the idea, and I suspect at the rate things are going, they might think she is too advanced for it. I will see how things are after the summer, because I know the place has a summer break in any case, but... Well, I hope things are going well for you and your family. Take lots of care.
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.

Yes! She's a feisty one. Melanie was, too, right? The red-head. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, Sarah Jane. She and Tom were in the first Doctor Who episodes I ever saw.
I also liked Leeda (sp?). Half-dressed and all. :)
She was kind of like a "savage" version of Jo. Both of them learned a lot from the Doctor. Different Doctors, but you know ...
I'm also a big fan of Jamie. And Adric ... his death shocked me.
