Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9-7-2026 — Argentina

9th July, 2026: Argentina.

It’s official: I’ve uploaded a video!

But you’ve possibly guessed that.

And possibly already noticed that uploading a video to tell you I’ve uploaded a video seems a little recursive.

For want of a better word!

At any rate?

I caught the first episode of For All Mankind’s new series: and thought I should tell you about it!

Oh … the BBC’s new site released this article, a few days ago: telling us many companies are renting out robots, and questioning what use the robots are.

It’s mostly entertainment ones getting rented out, it seems: ones doing tasks that are easy to program.

That’s not necessarily caught my attention, though.

The simple fact that companies are renting out robots is what caught me.

Why?

Because renting out electronics is an old idea: Brentwood had a branch of Radio Rentals, after all.

That’s not the first thing I thought of, though.

No.

I thought of Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot.

That’s the first place I saw the idea … !

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        9th July is Independence Day in Argentina.   It marks the country’s declaration of Independence from where: Spain, or Portugal?

Q2)        When did the country declare independence: 1814, 1816 or 1818?

Q3)        What’s Argentina’s national language: Spanish or Portuguese?

Q4)        Argentina’s currency is the Argentine what: peso, peseta or real?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The name “Argentina”, comes from the word, “argentum”.   Argentum is the Latin word for what: gold, silver or copper?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        In a non-leap year, 8th July is the 189th day of the year.   Is 189 a multiple of nine?
A1)        Yes: it’s 22*9.

Q2)        Is 189 a prime number?
A2)        No.   Prime numbers are only divisible by themselves and one: 189 is divisible by one, nine, twenty-two and itself, amongst others.

Q3)        Interstate 189 is a road in the USA.   It’s in which New England state?
A3)        Vermont.

Q4)        The 189 London bus goes from Brent Cross to which Tube station: Liverpool Street, Elephant and Castle or Marble Arch?
A4)        Marble Arch.

Q5)        Finally … ?   AD189 started on a what: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday?
A5)        Wednesday.
Here’s a motto …
“En unión y libertad”
“In Union and Freedom”.
Argentina’s motto.
And the Argentine national anthem …

The next 10 question sets are on 11th, 13th and 30th July, and on 11th August: they’re about World Horse Day, “I Don’t Like Mondays”, the Beano and World Steel Pan Day.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (It’s Marble Arch, Mum, rather than Liverpool Street.)

Bartering could be tricky, Debbi.   If I buy a book from you, how do I email you a loaf … ?
Oh, talking of amazing?   Happy Birthday … !

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
