The Daily Teaser — 05-08-2012

DRAT.

And double DRAT … !

I HATE waking up through my alarm clock, I really do … !

OK, granted, it’s Sunday.   Granted, I was up late, last night, putting together a bunch of Teaser videos — next Monday is Left Hander’s Day, by the way, be warned — and granted, I had half an eye on Jessica Ennis* while all of this was going on.

But even so … !

Hmmm …

Let’s get moving on, shall we … ?

‹‹·››

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mr Strictº, Trevor AND Debbi all putting in their answers.   With all three bagging 6 out of 6ª, it ALSO saw Mr S telling us he’d been taken to see License To Kill by his aunt, Trevor‡ blaming the Green Dragon’s Chilli for his performance the day before yesterday and Debbi† telling us about her most recent post, here.

Let’s see how they — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we?   Here they are, along with the ‘How To’, License and video …

Q1) 5th August, 1962, saw Marilyn Monroe found dead in her bed.   What was her birth name … ?
Q2) More to the point, what was the name of the first film she appeared in, with her trademark platinum blonde hair … ?
Q3) 5th August, 1583, saw the founding of the first English colony in North America: in which modern country is that colony … ?
Q4) 5th August, 1930, saw the birth of Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon: what’s his middle name … ?
Q5) More to the point, how long did he and Buzz Aldrin spend on the Moon … ?
Q6) And finally … 4th August, 1960, saw Burkina Fasa become independent of France: how was it known as the time … ?
And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 4th August, 70 AD, saw the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem.   The Roman army that did this was lead by which future Roman Emperor?
A1) Titus.
Q2) More to the point, which Jewish king built the original First temple … ?
A2) King Solomon.
Q3) Which James Bond movie saw its UK debut on 4th August, 1989 … ?
A3) License To Kill.
Q4) 4th August, 1972, saw the man who shot Governor George Wallace sentenced to 63 years in gaol: what was the name of the assassin … ?

A5) Alabama.
Q6) And finally … 4th August, 2005, saw Michaëlle Jean announced as the 27th Governor General of where … ?
A6) Canada.
Enjoy those, everyone: I’ll leave you with a tune from Dead or Alive, as it’s Pete Burns birthday, today.

Oh …

And a quote from one of the most famed US citizens, ever …
“I think we’re going to the moon because it’s in the nature of the human being to face challenges. It’s by the nature of his deep inner soul … we’re required to do these things just as salmon swim upstream.”
Neil Armstrong born, August 5, 1930

*        Her and the rest of Team GB managed to bag 6 — 6 — Gold medals in the course the day: that’s our best one-day total since 1908!

ª        Quite possibly meaning that Mr S, Debbi and Trevor are the Old Peculiar equivalent of Team GB’s cycling team: quite simply, going faster than everyone else.   Give yourselves a round of applause, gang … !

º        I still think, Mr S, that Timothy Dalton was seriously underrated!

‡        I believe you, Trevor.   Thousands wouldn’t, of course …

†        Looks like I’ve a LOT of reading to do, Debbi … ! :D

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
