Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17-8-2021: Gabon.

17th August, 2021.

Gosh … it’s going to be an exciting day.

No, really.

I’m going to buy … vegetables … !

Because … ?

Well, primarily, because I’ve run out of spaghetti sauce.

So I’m planning a batch of goulash.

I just hope Sainsbury’s has the right mushrooms.

I get points for them*!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Robin†, Olga‡, Trevor^, Mumª and Debbi‚ putting in their answers: with Robin, Olga, Trevor and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        17th August is Independence Day, in Gabon.   Marking the country’s independence — in 1960 — from which European country?

Q2)        Gabon is on which continent: Africa, Asia or South America?

Q3)        What’s Gabon’s capital: Kinshasa, Libreville or Malabo?

Q4)        Gabon shares its currency, the Central African CFA franc, with five other nations.   Name one of those nations.

Q5)        Finally … ?   What’s Gabon’s sole official language: Fang, French or Swahili?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        16th August is the Feast day of Saint Stephen of where: Hungary, Austria or Romania?
A1)        Hungary.

Q2)        16th August, 1923, saw the UK name part of its overseas Territory, the Ross Dependency.   The Ross Dependency is where: Africa, the Arctic or the Antarctic?
A2)        The Antarctic.

Q3)        The debut flight of the Junkers Ju 287 was made: on 16th August, 1944.   Its wings went which way: forwards or backwards?
A3)        Forwards.

Q4)        16th August, 1888, saw the birth of T. E. Lawrence: Lawrence of Arabia, as he was known.   He’s famed for his activities in Middle East. During which War: World War One or World War Two?
A4)        World War One.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Minamata Convention on Mercury came into force: on 16th August, 2017.   The city of Minamata is in which Asian nation … ?
A5)        Japan.
Here’s a motto …
“Union, Travail, Justice.”
Gabon’s motto.
And the Gabonese national anthem …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Apple’s mushroom emoji … ?   Is a deeply artistic version of the Amanita muscaria.   Which is poisonous.   Hey ho!

†        You’re right, Robin: it’s Dependency.   Quite where I got Territory from, I don’t know.

Mess is possibly the right word for it, Olga.   The BBC’s news channel’s has had the odd veteran cropping up: say how disappointed they about the withdrawal: the general opinion seems to be that they did their time for nothing.
The impression I’ve always had is that Afghanistan’s is considered a strategic asset: as it — and the Khyber Pass — are handy junctions between several countries.
A couple of things always spring to mind.   The British Empire always had problems in the area.   And Afghanistan’s one of THE opium growing areas.   I’ve always had the impression the Taliban love the income …

^        I’m just mildly annoyed I can’t find ITV Sport on my TV, Trevor¹.   The Battle of the Exes sound like it was quite a match.   (Turns out Evans got £6000 for her 2019 Women’s World Championship win: John Higgins won £500, 000 in the regular tournament, same year!   No wonder women are complaining!)

ª        Hello, Mum!

º        Isn’t it plak’tau, Debbi?   Frankly, my Klingon’s better than my Vulcan.   (Oh, no, it wasn’t in Amok Time!   It was Return to Tomorrow and Patterns of Force.   Off the top of my head … !)

¹        Oh, hang on, the coverage is on ITV 4 …

Yes, it's never been an easy place. And, of course, one has to wonder where the Taliban get their support...
    Good luck with your mushrooms.

Sky sport can be a bit like that TV4 rename. one of the lesser used sports channels gets renamed Sky Golf, Sky Boxing and Sky F1 racing when those sports are in play.

I haven't had goulash in awhile. When our heatwave is over, I might cook that too!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
