Sunday 28 July 2024

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th July 2024

28th July, 2024.

Ah HA!

It’s Sunday!

Which, frankly?

I’m expecting to be quiet, again.

Bar one thing.

Would you believe, I’m going to be organising my calendar.

I’ve got an appointment at Basildon Hospital on the 6th August: for a colonoscopy.

And … ?

Need to organise a lot of reminders: to remind myself to:
  • Take one set of laxatives, over the course of the week.
  • Take another set of laxatives over the course of the week
  • Go on a restricted diet over the last three days.
  • And take my bowel prep on the last day.
I know it’s for a good cause.

Trust, I know!

Oh, JUST as a thought … ?

In the wake of the San Diego Comic Con, a clip of Star Trek: Strange New World’s third season has been released.

Now that … ?

Looks fun!

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        28th July is Liberation Day in San Marino.   San Marino is totally surrounded by which European nation?

Q2)        28th July marks the start Ólavsøka.   Where: the Orkneys, the Faroes or the Shetlands?

Q3)        Dusty Hill died on 28th July, 2021.   He’d been the bass player for which rock band: Cream, Nirvana or ZZTop?

Q4)        Cricketer, Garfield ‘Gary’ Sobers was born on 28th July, 1936.   He played cricket for which international side: England, the West Indies or Australia?

Q5)        Finally … ?   An 8.6 magnitude earthquake hit China, on 28th July.   Of which year of the 1970s?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        27th July, 1970, saw the birth of actor, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.   He played Jaime Lannister in which series: House of the Dragon, The Rings of Power or Game of Thrones?
A1)        Game of Thrones.

Q2)        27th July, 1960, saw the birth of Jo Durie.   She played what: cricket, tennis or football?
A2)        Tennis.

Q3)        27th July, 1054, was the date of the Battle of Dunsinane.   The battle was between English forces lead by the Earl of Northumberland, and Scottish forces lead by which Scottish king?
A3)        Macbeth: also known as Macbethad mac Findláech/Macbeth MacFinlay.

Q4)        27th July, 1996, saw that year’s Olympic Games bombed by a domestic terrorist.   Games, and bombing, were in which US city: Atlanta, Batumi or Columbus?
A4)        Atlanta.

Q5)        Finally … ?   27th July, 1612, saw the birth of Murad 4th, sultan of the Ottoman Empire.   He was born, where: Kronborg Castle, the Topkapı Palace or the Palace of Westminster?
A5)        The Topkapı Palace.   (It’s home to what’s claimed to be the left-hand of John the Baptist. The first time I knew the hand was there?   Was after reading William Gibson’s Neuromancer.   The two main characters are touring the palace, when one mentions it’s there.   The other asks if it’s in a support vat: to which the first replies: “Nah, in a cage with a little door; so the Christians can kiss it for luck.”   You have to love science fiction.)
Here’s a thought …
“As I have always said, ‘I have never made a run for me.’”
Garfield Sobers, born 28th July, 1936.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        It was fairly quiet, Olga: although I did manage to bump into the chef from the local chippy.  She’s left handed: one of these days, I’m going to talk her into giving a fellow lefty a discount, I swear blind I will!

        Hello, Mum!

They can’t cause as many problems as CloudStrike or Microsoft, Debbi!   Aren’t you glad you’ve got a Mac?
I hope the memorial went well, Debbi: I can only hope your friend got a good turn out!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
