Sunday 18 August 2024

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th August, 2024.

18th August, 2024.

It’s officially official: it’s Sunday … !

Which means … ?

Jude’s done another video.

I have to admit, he puts a lot of effort into these!

~≈&≈~

I’ve been binge watching The Big Bang Theory, just recently: as it’s on Channel Four’s catchup service.

I’d never seen it on the original broadcast.

And … ?

It’s a delight!

I’ve got one question.

What’s Penny’s surname???????????

We never find out!

~≈🪙≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring four out of five.

The day also saw Olga‡ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        18th August, 1826, saw Major Gordon Laing become the first European to enter which city: Mecca, Petra or Timbuktu?

Q2)        18th August, 2005, saw a largest power outage hit which island: Java, Sumatra or Sulawesi?

Q3)        18th August, 1971, saw ANZAC troops withdraw from which conflict: the Korean War, the Vietnam War or the Falklands War?

Q4)        The city of Turku was attacked by a lone terrorist: on 18th August, 2017.   Turku is where: Finland, Denmark or Sweden?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Michael Knighton bought what, on 18th August, 1989: Manchester United, London Bridge or Sinclair Research?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        17th August is Independence in Indonesia.   Marking the day it proclaimed its independence, when: 1944, 1945 or 1946?
A1)        1945.

Q2)        It marks Indonesia’s independence from which European nation: Germany, the Netherlands or France?
A2)        The Netherlands.

Q3)        The world’s most populated island is part of Indonesia.   What is that island: Sulawesi, Java or Sumatra?
A3)        Java.

Q4)        What’s the largest island completely within Indonesia: Sumatra, Sulawesi or Java?
A4)        Sumatra.   (New Guinea is the largest island: but is shared between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.   Similarly, Borneo is the second largest island: but shared between Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   What’s Indonesia’s capital city?
A5)        Jakarta.
Here’s a thought …
“I want people to go to the movies. I am the man of the spectacle. I’m playing.”
Roman Polanski, 18 August 1933.
A song …

And an earworm …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

        Oh, very true, Debbi!

I can imagine, Olga: I saw the photo you tweeted past Edith.   That view looks breath-taking!

Oh, and it seems that Penny’s surname is Teller. I don’t remember the episode but I’ve read it was revealed in one of the episodes in season 2, although the creators never intended it to be a mystery.

    Q2) Java

    Q3) the Vietnam War

    Q4) Finland

    Q5) Manchester United
Enjoy your Sunday! Tomorrow I have a class with Jordi. Then, I'll be busy with the Festa Major and the radio, and Jordi will finally go on holiday (his wife is recovering well from her fractured arm), so I won't see him until mid-September again, everything going well.

  4. BTW, Penny has no last name.

Presumably, she takes her, um, husband's last name. It's not really a spoiler, but I'm withholding that information. :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
