Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd July 2025.
3rd July, 2025.
Right … it’s officially official: I’ve had my results in!
The ones from my most recent blood tests.
I’m diabetic, so you know: and have to have quarterly blood tests that monitor my HbA1clevels, my glucose levels.
I had the appointment, yesterday: to find out my recent result.
Forty-eight or less can be good.
Mine … ?
Was forty.
Which could be good, or could be bad … but got the nurse practitioner worried enough to ask me if I was having dizzy spells: these and other things, can be symptoms of dangerously low blood sugar levels.
It has to be said, the list of symptoms the NHS has released look familiar … !
She was also worried enough to ask me when I’d next be near the surgery.
That way … ?
I can pick up a blood monitor.
You know: one of the things that means you prick you finger, take a drop of blood, shove it in the machine, which then gives you a result.
We’ll have to see how that goes: but I think I’ll need a form to fill in.
I’ll have one more thing to track … !
~≈🩸≈~
Oh I caught another episode of Max Headroom, last night: one called “Body Banks”.
Which is quite an improvement on the first two.
It’s still very Miami Vice: but … ?
The pacing’s a bit better: and W. Morgan Sheppard — Mark Sheppard’s dad, for those following these things — makes a return as Blank Reg.
And gets one of the best lines, I should add.
About the only problem I’ve got, so far … ?
Frewer — as ace reporter, Edison Carter — spends a lot of time lugging a video camera around: a camera the size of a suitcase.
Except, of course, the producers should’ve stopped to think.
And thought “It’s the future: cameras are going to be smaller by then.”
OK, that’s with some forty odd years of hindsight: coming for a blogger — me! — who has a web-cam the size of a fag packet, and that many police routinely wear body cameras that are even smaller.
But, even so … !

Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s question set, shall we?
Q1)2nd July is the date of Sienna’s Palio di Provenzano. The Palio is a what: horse race, parade or festival?
A1)A horse race. (There’s two, each year: the second is on the 16th August.)
Q2)2nd July is the Feast day of Saint Bishoy: who’s also called Saint Pishoy. He’s a saint to which church: the Coptic Orthodox Church, Roman Catholic Church or Church of England?
Q3)The Battle of Marston took place: on 2nd July, 1644. During what’s technically called what: the War of the Three Kingdoms, the Spanish Civil War or the War of Jenkins’ Ear?
A3)The War of theThree Kingdoms. (The period includes the First, and Second, English Civil Wars, the Bishops War, the Anglo-Scottish War of 1650-1652, the Irish Confederate Wars and the Cromwellian Conquest of Ireland. Oh, and the kitchen sink …)
Q4)President Warren G. Harding signed the Knox Porter Resolution: on 2nd July, 1921. It saw the end of US involvement in what: World War 1, the League of Nations or the War of the Three Kingdoms?
Q5)Finally … ? Marcel Lefebvre was excommunicated on 2nd July, 1988. By which 20th Century pope? (The surname is pronounced ‘lee-FEB-re’, according to Siri.).
A5)John Paul2nd. (Lefebvre was a well known, and very conservative, priest: he refused to perform masses in anything other than Latin, for example. His views on abortions were extremely conservative …)
Here’s a thought …
“I know my films upset people. I want to upset people.”
Ken Russell, 3 July 1927 – 27 November 2011.
And a quartet …
The next ten question set is on 15th July: it’s about the Northwest Territories.
† Oh, right … they’re all sorts of places, Olga! I think my local library would be a good place to use in this weather: and a few places in town are already used as warm hubs. Including the old Manor House my weight management class is in. It’s got quite a few regulars, as well.
Actually, Olga, talking of air-raid shelters … ? I caught this on YouTube, last night: it’s fascinating … but I’m surprised it’s not being used as a data centre … !
‡ Good luck with it, Debbi! And happy birthday, in advance!
Now … did I mention this video … ? I don’t think the show in question, failed … !
I hope you get the device soon and everything is OK. It might be that the injections are more effective than expected, but they might need adjusting, perhaps. I agree about Max Headroom, although there has always been a bit of a struggle between developers going for bigger is better and the move to make everything smaller. Even considering it was supposed to happen in the future, it had a retro look, a bit like a much cheaper version of Blade Runner, where there were things that looked very futuristic but people dressed in bizarrely old-fashioned ways (some pretty steam-punk style, although I am not sure it was a “thing” then). Also, sometimes our imagination about the future focuses on some elements and not others (I am not sure a small round thing hovering the house had ever features in any old movies about the futures, although you might have got robots doing house work… And social media…) Oh, thanks! I'll check it out!
You're right. It was a short, but successful run. Even if McGoohan had to leave the country. :)

I have to watch that thing on The Prisoner!
Check out my podcast! You are alluded to (not mentioned by name, but you'll know when you hear it--that "blogger from England"--that's you, kiddo!) lol
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
† Your Facebook, X/Twitter, Blogger, Instagram, TikTok or LinkedIn profile are acceptable. I also like seeing folks webpages.
