Q4)Robert Walpole was born on 26th August, 1676. He’s seen as the first Prime Minister of Great Britain, and the First Lord of the what: Treasury, Foreign and Commonwealth Office or Home Office?
† I honestly couldn’t tell you if Walpole’s a founding father figure, Debbi: merely the first PM. I think there’s arguments for Alfred the Great, Henry 8th, Elizabeth 1st, James 6th and 1st, William Beveridge, Nye Bevan, Oliver Cromwell and the group of medieval barons that forced King John to sign the Magna Carta, being the nearest UK equivalents. What’s now the UK has at least a thousand years of history.
Oh, Britain’s unwritten constitution is very written. Wikipedia tells us that the most recent acts of Parliament that can be seen as part of the constitution date from between 1911 and 1998. And those are the recent ones.
A quick Google search tells me that the Statute of Marlborough — that dates to 1267 and the reign of Henry 3rd — has four chapters that are still in force. (Oh, you can’t be drunk in a pub: that one dates back to 1839. And, if I recall correctly, and in addition to drunks? Bar staff couldn’t serve on-duty police officers, or working prostitutes.)
‡ I’m not surprised the Naitilus won, Olga: that looked incredibly authentic! The one pictured is in Disneyland Paris: so had the advantage of working to the original plans.
It reminds me of the various hobbyist prop builders: some of the reproduction Daleks are superb!
I obviously have to return to England to attend Comic-Con. If the Daleks show up again!
I want to know how build a TARDIS. :)

You guys have so much history! Romans, Vikings, etc., etc. The mind reels. :)
We borrowed your common law. I remember learning about the Magna Carta in elementary school. Thanks, Oliver Cromwell, the unwilling King John, etc., etc. And Henry 8th!
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
