Today’s Teaser Questions

Phew, now that was a film and a half, last night!

I had a couple of friends around, to watch “The Day The Earth Stood Still”, and had a very good time, indeed.

At any rate, here’s today’s questions …

Q1) Today in 1843 saw the launch of what was the largest ship afloat; what was its name?

Q2) More to the point, which great Briton designed that ship?

Q3) July 19th, 1545, saw the sinking of Henry 8th most famous ship; what was her name?

Q4) Today on 1980, saw the opening of the 22nd Olympic Games; in which Russian city was this?

Q5) And finally, today in 1997 saw which group declare a ceasefire?

And here’s yesterday’s Roman questions and answers …

Q1) July 18th, 64 AD, saw the start of the Great Fire of Rome; which Emperor — according to legend, anyway — famously fiddled, whilst it burnt?

A1) Nero.

Q2) That emperor’s predecessor had been the Emperor Claudius; who played Claudius, in the TV series, “I, Claudius”?

A2) Derek Jacobi.

Q3) As we may know, Julius Cæsar wasn’t the first emperor of Rome; who was?

A3) Augustus Cæsar. (Or Imperator Cæsar Divi Filius Augustus*. If you want to get really picky. And I know the AKA47’s did, the last time I used this question …)

Q4) One of Augustus’ titles was Pontifex Maximus; who currently uses the title?

A4) The Pope.

Q5) And finally, what was the name of the twin brothers who, according to ancient Roman tradition, founded the city of Rome?

A5) Romulus and Remus.

Enjoy those, folks … I’ll catch you later!

* Which, if I’ve understood things correctly, means something like The Divine Father of his Nation, Field Marshal Augustus Cæsar. But don’t quote me on that …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
