The Daily Teaser …

Well, well, well …

I’ve had three people putting up their answers, yesterday! And I’ll be honest, I didn’t know yesterday was World Habitat Day.

There’s a cop out, though; World Habitat Day is the first Monday in October, rather than a specific date in October.

So NYAH!!

But let’s move on, shall we? Shall we? Yes, lets!

Here’s today’s questions; little bit easier, as there’s only five, today …

Q1) October the 6th, 1600, saw the first performance of Jacopo Peri’s “Euridice” (ur-RI-de-see), the world’s oldest known surviving opera; in which Italian city did that première take place?

Q2) October 6th, 1981, saw the assassination of which Egyptian President?

Q3) October 6th, 1985, saw which police officer killed during the Broadwater Farm riots?

Q4) October 6th, 2002, saw Josemaria Escrivá canonised by the Vatican; which Roman Catholic religious order did he found?

Q5) And finally, today in 1927 saw the opening of the worlds first prominent talking movie; which Al Jolson film was it?

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 5th October, 1877, saw Chief Joseph surrender his tribe to US Federal forces; which Native American tribe did he lead?

A1) The Nez Percé.

Q2) October 5th, 1936, saw the start of which crusade?

A2) The Jarrow March. (Which was called the Jarrow Crusade, at the time.)

Q3) 5th, October, 1953, saw the first documented meeting of which Twelve Step group?

A3) Narcotics Anonymous.

Q4) In 1947, October the 5th saw President Harry S. Truman make the very first televised what?

A4) Presidential Address.

Q5) 5th October, 1951, saw the birth of which charitable Irish knight?

A5) (Sir) Bob Geldof. (As he’s a foreign national, he can’t used the ‘Sir’, but …)

Q6) Another birthday; October 5th, 1952, saw the birth of which horror writer?

A6) Clive Barker.

Q7) TV, again, October 5th, 1969, saw the first broadcast — by the BBC — of which comedy show?

A7) “Monty Python’s Flying Circus”.

Q8) Today in 1989, saw which religious leader awarded the Nobel Peace Prize?

A8) The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso.

Q9) According to the United Nations, today is International World … what … Day?

A9) International World Teachers Day. (Go on, find one and give ’em an apple … or a Mac, if you’re feeling generous. It’s ALSO World Habitat Day; which is traditionally the first Monday in October … October Fifth, this year … )

Q10) And finally, today in 1994 saw 48 bodies of the members of the Order of the Solar Temple, who’d committed mass suicide; in which European country were they found?

A10) Switzerland.

Best score, yesterday was Sue, by the way, nine out of ten! Enjoy those, folks!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
