The Daily Teaser …

You know, that’s got me tickled …

Yesterday, I — semi seriously — floated an idea past people.

As you’ve probably worked out, by now, I’m quite keen on promoting both Mac OS X, and Ubuntu Linux. And the thought I put to friends, yesterday was this: we know that Canonical names the various releases of Ubuntu after animals, and tends to get alphabetical about it.

So we’ve ended up with various releases: Dapper Drake, Hardy Heron, Jaunty Jackalope, what have you.

The next version is called Lucid Lynx. The one after will use the letter M.

Canonical haven’t announced what it’ll be called, so I asked people to make suggestions, just as a fun thing.

And BOY, the suggestions …

I’ve got to admit, I liked one that Andrea put in: Mystifying Manatee!

There were a few others: but, somehow, I’m thinking that Mammoth Merkin could be … misinterpreted …

Anyway, let’s move on, shall we?

Yes, let’s …

Yesterday’s Teaser saw just Simon manage to get 7 out of 7.

Let’s see how people do with today’s questions, shall we? Here they are, along with the ‘How To’ and License

Q1) 23rd February, 632, AD, saw the Last Sermon recited by whom?

Q2) While we’re on a religious theme, 23rd of February, 1455, is the traditional date of publication for which version of the Bible?

Q3) 23rd February, 1945, saw the US flag raised on which island?

Q4) 23rd February, 1981, saw an attempted right-wing coup: in which European country?

Q5) And finally … 23rd February, 1633, saw the birth of which noted diarist?

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 22nd February, 1983, saw the opening — and LAST — night of the Arthur Bicknell play, generally regarded as Broadway’s worst play and most serious flop. What was its name?
A1) Moose Murders.

Q2) 22nd February, 1997, saw Scottish scientists announce they had successfully cloned a mammal: what species was that mammal?
A2) A sheep.

Q3) More to the point, what was that mammal’s name?
A3) Dolly.

Q4) 22nd February, 1879, the city of Utica, in New York state saw the opening of the first branch of which shop?
A4) Woolworth’s.

Q5) 22nd February, 1797, saw the start of the last ever invasion of Great Britain: by which European country?
A5) France.

Q6) More to the point, in which Welsh town did this invasion take place in?
A6) Fishguard.

Q7) And finally … 22nd February, 1930, saw the birth of singer, Marni Nixon: in which 1964 film did she provide the singing voice of Audrey Hepburn?
A7) My Fair Lady.

Enjoy those, everyone: I’ll catch you later!

    O People,
Lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.

    O People,
Just as you regard this month, this day, this city as sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. Allah has forbidden you to take usury (interest); therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
