Uncomfortably Messing About ...

You know, there are times when Movie Night Adrian's sense of humour does get slightly ahead of me …

Slightly …

He’s managed to give me an old — antique, almost — laptop, to see if he can't talk me into the rather large job of updating my skills base.

By learning a little light hacking.

And associated … stuff …

And to start me off on that ... ?

Suggested I install the very light weight Arch Linux distribution onto it.

Which I've got to admit, is a bint intimadating, as the actual installation is all done in Terminal.

Which is not something I'm going to recommend for all of us: I think I, like many, am more comfortable with a Graphical User interface.

So installing Arch on this laptop - the very one I'm writing this on - was a bit of a job.

A fast one, though, with little or no actual GUI: I LIKE GUI’s, I really do!

But Adrian's very valid point?

Was that learning how to troubleshoot Linux distros like Ubuntu and others could well involve a lot of exactly this sort of command line usage.

Now, if you'll excuse me … ?

I've some reading to do …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
