The Daily Teaser — 21-1-2014: First Flight Of The Concorde …

You know, I’ve just looked out of my window.

And … ?

And, while Britain’s having a mild winter — at least, in is, in my part of the UK — I can safely say it’s foggy out there.

Foggy enough to worry John Carpenter, certainly.

Lord alone knows what the visibility’s like, but it looks low enough for me to repeat Radio Four’s warning.

Be careful driving out there … !

Moving on, yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: along with telling us  she’s not normally a big one for games, also scored five out of five.

Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s themed questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 21st January, 1976, saw the first commercial flights of Concorde.   What call-sign did British Airways use for their Concordes: Speedbird Concorde, Spudbird Concorde or Bigbird Concorde?
Q2) Those commercial flights started at London and Paris: in which small, island nation did the London flight land … ?
Q3) The Paris flight eventually ended in Rio de Janeiro.   In which South American country is Rio de Janeiro …?
Q4) Concorde flew to Rio de Janeiro … via which African city … ?
Q5) Concorde was initially barred from flying to the US, by the US Congress.   Over US fears about what: oil booms, dotcom bubbles or sonic booms … ?
Q6) Famously, Concorde had what shape wings: alpha, delta or gamma?
Q7) Concorde also had a famous droop nose section, at the front.   What did the droop nose improve, each time Concorde landed … ?
Q8) Name either of the airlines that used Concorde — longterm — during its lifetime …
Q9) What was the name of the Soviet equivalent of the Concorde … ?
Q10) Finally … in which year did its operators finally announce Concorde would be retired … ?
Here’s yesterday’s question and answers …
Q1) 20th January, 1265, saw the first meeting of the English Parliament: in what’s now the Palace of Westminster.   The part of the palace used was what’s now called: Westminster Hall, Saint Stephen’s Chapel or the Central Lobby … ?
Q2) What’s name was given to the English Parliament’s successor body … ?
Q3) The UK’s modern parliament meets in which city … ?
A3) The City Of Westminster.   (Technically, London has two cities: the City Of London, and the City of Westminster.   Both of which are in the Greater London area …)
Q4) That first English Parliament was led by Simon De Montfort, the 6th Earl of where: Leicester, Leinster or Lincoln … ?
A4) Leicester.
Q5) And finally … this first parliament was noted by having members who were what: knights, commoners or elected?
A5) Elected.
I’ll leave you with this tune …

And this observation from Wonderbra model, Eva Herzigova …
“We’re constantly buying airplane tickets; we travel on the Concorde.”
Eva Herzigova.
Enjoy your day!

*        Me, neither, Debbi: but this one’s fun!   (And very easy to use one handed, as well: it just uses the cursor buttons!   Oh†, and the space bar: that’s the pause button.   For it, QuickTime, iTunes, Audacity, VLC, and most other Mac media apps.)

†        Oh, while I’m at it, Debbi, have you noticed the little icon at the top of each page and window … ?   Like the folder icon next to the bit that says ‘Cuddy2977’ in the top two photos, below?   If you ctrl-click on that icon, in Snow Leopard, you get a little drop down menu.   Clicking on items in that menu, opens the relevant folder.   I find it useful to navigate around my system.   Hopefully, it’s something that’s been kept in Mavericks, which is the version of OS X you’re using.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
