The Daily Teaser — 29-5-2014: Mount Everest

Hmmm …

That’s either very good …

Or very bad …

One or the other.

You see, the Job Centre is looking at making sure I go on a Mandatory Job placement.

OK …

Not sure I’m keen on the idea, but there you go: we run into the word ‘mandatory’.

What did grab my attention, when I was told about it … ?

Was that the contract to run the thing … ?

Had been awarded to SEETEC: who’d also run the Work Programme I was on.

I was — understandably — not impressed when I was told the most unhelpful Quango in existence were back on my case.

It’s four weeks of work placement, at thirty hours a week.

How wrong can SEETEC get it?

I don’t know.

But the word that crosses my mind, here, is ‘very’ …

~≈Â≈~
At any rate, let’s get a move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and bagging six out of six.

Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s rather mountainous questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 29th May, 1953, saw Hillary and Norgay complete their climb of Mount Everest: name either of the countries Mount Everest is in.
Q2) More to the point, HALF of Mount Everest is in what used to be where … ?
Q3) Which Commonwealth country did Edmund Hillary come from … ?
Q4) Similarly, which country was Mr Norgay from … ?
Q5) What was his first name … ?
Q6) Which ethnic group did he belong to … ?
Q7) How high is Everest: 27,029 ft, 29,029 ft or 31,029 ft … ?
Q8) What’s the Tibetan name for Mount Everest … ?
Q9) Most of the mountain’s native names translate as Holy what: father, mother or child … ?
Q10) In which mountain range is Mount Everest … ?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 28th May, 1907, saw the first run of the Isle of Man TT Race.   What DOES the TT stand for … ?
Q2) Who won that first race … ?
A2) A chap called Charlie Collier.
Q3) 28th May, 1998, saw Pakistan test nuclear missiles: sparking international protest.   They fired theirs in response to tests by which neighbouring country … ?
A3) India.
Q4) 28th May, 2002, saw the Mars Odyssey craft observe large amounts of which gas, on Mars: Hydrogen, Helium or Lithium … ?
A4) Hydrogen.
Q5) 28th May, 2012, saw security firms announce the discovery of the Flame virus.   Flame attacked computers in which part of the world: the Middle East, Far East or Europe … ?
A5) The Middle East.
Q6) Finally … 28th May, 1993, saw Monaco join the United Nations.   What’s the name of the ruling family of Monaco … ?
I’ll leave you with this tune …

And this thought …
“Nobody climbs mountains for scientific reasons. Science is used to raise money for the expeditions, but you really climb for the hell of it.”
Sir Edmund Hillary.
Have a good day …

*        Interesting’s putting it mildly, I think, Debbi.   (I have seriously got to sit down with that film … !)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
