The Daily Teaser — 25-7-2014

You know, the back of my neck don’t ’alf itch … !

But there you go: that’s part of the price of getting a haircut.

And also part of the preparation for going to an interview.

Yep: I’ve got another interview.   This afternoon, in fact.

In Stratford, at the Westfield Shopping Centre.

I’m …

Well, yes, I’m mildly nervous.   I usually am, whenever I’m due up for an interview.

I’m also feeling … …

Well, not confident.   More resigned.

I’m not sure I’ll end up getting the job, for starters.

We’ll have to see, won’t we?

~≈Â≈~
But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 25th July, 1959, saw the Saunders-Roe N1 make the Channel crossing, from Calais to Dover: becoming the first practical example of its kind of craft to do so.   What kind of craft was it?
Q2) Who was the English engineer credited with designing that kind of craft … ?
A2) Sir Christopher Cockerill.
Q3) 25th July, 1976, saw the Viking 1 probe take a famous — or notorious — photo.   Of what … ?
Q4) 25th July, 1943, saw Benito Mussolini step down as head of his country’s government: and armed forces.   WHICH country … ?
Q5) 25th July, 1992, saw the Summer Olympics open, in Barcelona.   It was the first time representatives from where had been present at the Games: every nation on Earth, every religion or every ethnicity?
Q6) Finally … Wyoming became a territory of the United States on 25th July, 1868.   What’s Wyoming’s capital: Cheyenne, Shoshone or Sioux?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 24th July saw the formal unveiling of the Menin Gate war memorial.   The Gate is in which European country?
A1) Belgium.
Q2) More to the point, the Gate is in which town?
A2) Ypres.
Q3) The Gate was unveiled in which year of the 1920s?
A3) 1927.
Q4) The Hall Of Memory part of the Gate honours 54896 troops.   The troops concerned are what: missing or unidentified?
A4) Both.   (Occasionally, bodies from the battle the memorial commemorates are found: if identified, their names are removed.)
Q5) Finally … The Last Post ceremony at the Gate was originally started by representatives from the town’s what: fire brigade, rat Catchers or police?
A5) Fire brigade.   It’s still done by them, but organized by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
I’ll leave you with this song …

And this thought …
“Biography should be written by an acute enemy.”
Arthur Balfour, 25 July 1848 – 19 March 1930.
Enjoy your day … !

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
