The Daily Teaser — 8-10-2014: Filthy Euro Lucre!

Phew … !

The Job Centre found my stick … !

Which is possibly a phrase and a half, I know.

But I have to admit to being a touch worried, yesterday: I’d left a USB memory stick — one I use for regularly used documents — there, yesterday.

Worrying, obviously: I’d not want some of that stuff to fall into the wrong hands.

Thankfully, though, it had been found, and handed in.

Boy, was I glad … !

And very grateful to whoever did that.

It’s nice to have a little faith in people, restored.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring six out of six.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s monied questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 8th October, 1990, saw Britain’s first day as a member of Europe’s ERM.   ERM standing for Exchange Rate … what?
Q2) Being part of the ERM meant the Pound had to peg it’s value to the then currency of Germany.   What WAS that currency?
Q3) What IS the symbol for the Pound Sterling?
Q4) The ERM affected what’s now the European Union.   What currency is now used in many countries in the EU?
Q5) What’s that currency’s symbol?
Q6) The currency is used by eighteen of the EU’s member nations.   Name one of them …
Q7) Ten EU countries don’t use the EU’s currency.   Which of them uses the Forint?
Q8) Which of them uses the Lev?
Q9) One country is due to start using the EU currency: at the start of 2015.   Which country?
Q10) Finally … The country in Question 9 is one of only two countries that’s a member of ERM2.   What’s the other … ?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 7th October, 1912, saw the first trades on the Helsinki Stock Exchange.   Helsinki is in which European country … ?
A1) Finland.
Q2) More to the point, what’s that country’s currency?
A2) The Euro.
Q3) 7th October, 2001, saw the USA launched airstrikes against both the Taliban: and al-Qaeda.   Both groups were based in which country?
Q4) The airline, KLM, was founded on 7th October, 1919: it’s still operating, today, on its 95th birthday.   KLM is the national carrier of which European nation?
A4) The Netherlands.
Q5) 7th October, 1985, saw an Italian cruise ship hijacked: by the PLO.   What was that cruiser called?
A5) The Achille Lauro.
Q6) Finally … 7th October, 1996, saw the founding of which US news channel: CNN, Fox News or ESPNews?
A6) Fox News.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“The most serious criticism of European Monetary Union is that by abandoning exchange rate adjustments it transfers to the labor market the task of adjusting for competitiveness and relative prices... losses in output and employment (and pressure on the European central bank to inflate) will predominate.”

I’ll leave you with this tune …

This tune …

Oh and a song about cash that DOESN’T have a video on a staircase …

Enjoy your day …

*        I’m looking forward to seeing it, Debbi.   At least, once it filters through to the UK!!   (I’ve just booked up series one from Brentwood Library: I’ve got the iTunes credit for both, but they’re a BIG download … !)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
