The Daily Teaser — 3-11-2014

Right …

It’s Monday.

But you’d possibly worked that one out, hadn’t you … ?

At any rate, it’s Monday: which means a couple of thing.

Firstly … ?   I’m off to my weight management programme, tonight.   I’m curious: I hadn’t actually lost much weight, last week.   We’ll have to see how things go, there.

And secondly … ?

Well, I’m back off to the local Job Centre, again: I’m kind of getting used to the idea of heading up there to do an online search.

It’s nice to get out of the house: even if I’m only heading five minutes up the road.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video

Q1) 3rd November, 1973, saw NASA launch the Mariner 10 probe.   Which planet was it heading to?
Q2) 3rd November, 1954, saw the release of the original Godzilla film.   Which year saw the most recent Godzilla film released?
Q3) 3rd November, 2013, saw a solar eclipse occur: visible to watchers in the USA, Africa and parts of southern Europe.   A solar eclipse occurs when what goes between Earth and the Sun?
Q4) 3rd November, 1900, saw the birth of Adolf Dassler: founder of which sportswear company?
Q5) Finally … 3rd November, 1978, saw Dominica become independent of the UK.   Dominica is in which sea?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 2nd November, 2000, saw the first crew of what, arrive at their new home: the Halley Research Station in Antarctica, the International Space Station or CERN?
A1) The International Space Station, or ISS.
Q2) 2nd November, 1982, saw the launch of which British TV channel?
Q3) 2nd November, 1889, saw North Dakota admitted to the United States of America.   What’s the capital city of North Dakota?
A3) Bismark.
Q4) North Dakota was admitted to the Union on the same day as South Dakota.   What’s South Dakota’s largest city by population?
A4) Sioux Falls.   (Deadwood, the South Dakotan town that the TV series is based on, is 48th on the list.)
Q5) Finally … 2nd November, 1917, was the date of the Balfour Declaration: which promised a Jewish homeland in Palestine.   Which British Foreign Secretary made this declaration?
A5) Arthur Balfour, the 1st Baron Balfour.   (He’d succeeded his uncle, Lord Salisbury, as leader of the Conservative party.  Salisbury had previously named Balfour as Chief Secretary of Ireland, in 1887: earning the pair suspicions of nepotism, and creating the phrase, ‘Bob’s your Uncle’ — roughly analogous to the French word ‘et voila’ — in the process.)
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Et primo ferri motu prosternite mundum”

“One stroke of sword and all the world is yours.”
Lucan, November 3, 39 AD – April 30, 65 AD.
And, as it’s John Barry’s birthday, this …

And these …

Have a good day!

*        Enjoy it, Debbi!   (Personally, I think it’s some of Moffat’s best writing … )

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
