The Daily Teaser — 17-12-2014

Right …

That’s that started …

~≈¥≈~

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ve realised I post up the Daily Teaser, Weekly Teaser and the Friday Question Sets on pretty much a regular basis.

I started the Friday Question Sets as a result of being a former Pub Quiz master.   And, at the time, there weren’t THAT many question sets, online.

Remedying that’s something I and other’s have contributed to, over the years.

This year … ?   This year — yesterday, in fact — I’ve managed to get started on this week’s Friday Question Set: with the BIG difference to normal?

Is that it’s the Christmas set.

Here’s hoping it gets used.

~≈¥≈~

But let’s get a move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video

Q1) 17th December, 1987, saw the release of Final Fantasy: the first game in the series.   The game was released for what Japan called the Famicom: and everyone else called what?
Q2) 17th December, 1983, saw the Provisional IRA explode a car-bomb: outside which London department store?
Q3) 17th December, 2003, saw the first powered flight by SpaceShipOne: the world’s first private spacecraft.   The port it flew from is in which Californian town?
Q4) 17th December, 1981, saw Brigadier James L. Dozier kidnapped by Red Brigade terrorists.   In which European country?
Q5) Finally … 17th December, 2010, saw the death of musician, Don Van Vliet.   Don was better remembered as whom?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 16th December, 1969, saw the House Of Commons vote to abolish the death sentence for murder.   How big was the majority in favour of abolition: 148 votes, 158 votes or 168 votes?
A1) 158.
Q2) 16th December, 1991, saw Kazakhstan become independent: from where?
A2) The USSR.
Q3) 16th December, 1914, saw German naval forces bombard Hartlepool, Scarborough and where else?
A3) Whitby.
Q4) The Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel opened, on 16th December, 1903: in Bombay, India.   These days, Bombay is better known, how?
A4) Mumbai.
Q5) Finally … 16th December, 1850, saw the first of the Canterbury Pilgrims arrive at their destination.   Where were they emigrating to?
I’ll leave you with this tune …

And this thought …
“Only two classes of books are of universal appeal: the very best and the very worst.”
Ford Madox Ford, 17 December 1873 – 26 June 1939.
Enjoy your day.

 *        I’m going to have to catch those posts later on, today, Debbi: twenty more questions, and the Christmas Friday Question set is done!   (And BOY, I’m grateful Wikipedia has list of Xmas movies.   And TV specials.   I only hope they’ve food and decorations†.   What is it you say?   “Too many books, not enough time … !”)

†        I tell you what, Debbi, I’m glad the site has what it calls disambiguation pages: pages that group list of articles with similar names.   I did a round, in last years Xmas set: all about Turkey.   You’d be surprised what you can did up.   (I did a double take, when I saw the article about the Australian Bustard …)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
