The Daily Teaser — 13-1-2015

Hmmm …

It looks like CentCom — the US military’s Central Command — got both a Twitter account, and a YouTube account.

Nice, if that’s what you want to look at.

It also seems President Obama’s been giving a speech about how the US is going to beef up its cyber-security.

Always a good thing.

The shame of it … ?   Is that CentCom’s had its Twitter and YouTube accounts hacked by Islamic State.

There’s possibly an irony, there …

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 13th January, 2012, saw the Costa Concordia sink: off the coast of which European country?
Q2) 13th January, 1966, saw Robert Weaver become the USA’s first African-American member of the President’s Cabinet: serving as Secretary of Housing.   Who was that President?
Q3) 13th January, 1993, saw which Space Shuttle launched on its third mission: the Columbia, the Endeavour or the Enterprise?
Q4) 13th January, 1866, saw the birth of noted mystic, George Gurdjieff.   In what’s now where: Armenia, Azerbaijan or Georgia?
Q5) Finally … 13th January, 1955, saw the birth of writer, Jay McInerney.   Which of his novels was turned into a 1988 film, with Michael J Fox?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 12th January, 1971, saw the debut of All In The Family.   Which UK show was it based on?
Q2) In a similar vein, 12th January, 1966, saw which comic hero appear on TV, for the first time?
A2) Batman.   (WHAM! BAM!)
Q3) 12th January, 1981, saw Dynasty first hit US screens.   What was the name of the central family in the series?
A3) The Carringtons.   (To many in the UK, much was made of the fact the US pronunciation of the show’s name was ‘DIE nasty.’   Now … Where DOES George R. R. Martin get his ideas … )
Q4) Moving away from the TV set … 12th January, 2005, saw the launch of the Deep Impact probe: heading for Tempel 1.   Was Tempel 1 an asteroid, meteor or comet?
A4) A comet.
Q5) Finally … 12th January, 1974, saw the birth of Melanie Chisholm: Mel C of The Spice Girls.   Was she Sporty, Scary, Baby, Ginger or Posh?
A5) She was Sporty Spice.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Not a very well-known fact, but on planes they always carry a trombone just in case there’s a disaster and they need to keep morale up. All cabin crew - fully proficient in the trombone. And of course there’s a double facility: if you ditch at sea, it can be used as a snorkel.”

Bill Bailey, 13 January 1964.
And a quick tune from Suggs …

Enjoy your day …

*        Well, it SEEMS to have calmed down, for the moment, Debbi: LORD knows what’s happening … !

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
