The Daily Teaser — 28-1-2015: The Challenger

Oh, now that’s sad …

Did I tell you I belong to an amateur dramatics group, many years ago?

And thoroughly enjoyed it: I think I’d not have been the pub quiz-master I became, without the basics I learnt there.

And from Aleene Hatchard, the woman who ran it for many years.

Sadly … ?   Sadly, it seemed Aleene died on 17th January of this year: of Pancreatic Cancer.

I’m saddened to hear it: and can only offer my condolences to her husband and children.

I think I, like others, am someone who owes her a lot.

RIP, Aleene.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 28th January, 1986, saw the Challenger explode on launch.   How many astronauts died in the explosion?
Q2) Name any of the crew.
Q3) Which of the crew was a school teacher?
Q4) The mission was due to place satellites to observe what: Halley’s Comet, the Moon or Jupiter?
Q5) Finally … according to the Rogers Commission that investigated the accident, the explosion was due a faulty what: o-ring, fuel line or booster rocket?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 27th January, 1945, saw the Red Army liberate the Auschwitz concentration camp.   The camp was in which European country?
A1) Poland.
Q2) 27th January, 1832, saw the birth of Lewis Carroll.  What was his real name?
Q3) 27th January, 1972, saw the birth of singer-songwriter, Mark Owen.   With which band did he find international fame?
A3) Take That.
Q4) 27th January, 2011, saw demonstrations start in Sanaa.   Sanaa is in which Arabic country?
A4) Yemen.
Q5) Finally … Porfirio Lobo Sosa was named as President, on 27th January, 2010.   Of where?
A5) Honduras.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled.”

Richard Feynman, in his section of the the Rogers Commission Report into the Challenger Disaster.
And with the only video I could show you …

Enjoy your day.

*        I’ve never actually read it, Debbi.   Mind you, my medieval Latin isn’t exactly stunning … !

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
