The Daily Teaser — 7-1-2015

ARRRRGGGGHHHH … !

I slept through my alarm!

I hate sleeping through my alarm!

OK, granted, I have a day off, today.

Granted, I can go back to bed.

Still …

ARRRRGGGGHHHH … !!

~≈Ô≈~

But let’s get a move on, shall we?   The day’s a’wasting … !

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring four out of five.

Lets see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the  How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 7th January, 1985, saw the launch of Sakigaki: the first space probe to be launched by a country other than Russia or the USA.   Which country launched it?
Q2) 7th January, 2005, saw the Saint Lawrence Lime tree — in Canterbury, Kent — blown over.   The tree was the only one in what: a football pitch, a cricket field or a rugby pitch?
Q3) 7th January, 1797, saw the first use of what’s now the flag of modern Italy.   Name any one of the three colours used in it.
Q4) 7th January, 1925, saw the birth of naturalist, author and conservationist, Gerald Durrell.   His book, My Family And Other Animals, tells of his childhood on which Greek island?
Q5) Finally … 7th January, 2007, saw the death of journalist and TV present, Magnus Magnusson.   Which quiz show did he present for many years?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 6th January, 1977, saw EMI fire the Sex Pistols.   After the band behaved badly, where: the London Hilton, Heathrow Airport or a TV studio?
Q2) 6th January, 1907, saw Maria Montessori open her first school: in which Italian city?
A2) Rome.
Q3) 6th January, 1781, saw the last (attempted) French invasion of British territory.   During the Battle of which Channel Island: Jersey, Guernsey or Alderney?
A3) The Battle of Jersey.
Q4) 6th January, 2000, saw the death of Celia: under a falling tree.   With Celia’s death, her species became extinct.   Celia was, in effect, the last Pyrenean what: Ibex, Ibid or Ibis?
A4) Ibex.   (Or, at least, naturally born Ibex: a cloned one lasted for 7 minutes in 2009.)
Q5) Finally … 6th January, 1492, saw the end of the Spanish Reconquista: when Ferdinand and Isabella of Aragon and Castile entered which city?
A5) Granada.   (The city actually surrendered a week earlier: on 2nd January, 1942.)
I’ll leave you with this observation from Lewis Hamilton …
“It is actually quite exciting when you’re flying headfirst into a barrier—the initial part, the initial part is actually quite fun, especially when you hit the gravel trap and you get some air, and then you see it coming and you think ’erk—it’s gonna hurt!'”
Lewis Hamilton, born 7th January, 1985.
And this tune …

Enjoy your day.

*        Purple or otherwise, I’d still like to see more of Rusty, Debbi … !

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
