Ripples …

OK …

I was going to write this post, briefly and quickly, on my phone.

As you may or MAY not realise, I‘ve a new phone: a Sony Xperia E1.

It’s a nice little phone: one I’ve downloaded a basic writing app for, as well as the Blogger app.

In the vague expectation of writing something on the proverbial go, for Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar.

Quite WHAT, I don’t know.   But I’d think of something, no doubt.

But frankly … ?

Well, the version of Android on my phone — Kitkat, apparently — is broadly similar enough to iOS to be reassuring to me.

But different enough to be bloody awkward.

I couldn’t work out how to select ALL the text I’d written, in order to transfer it to the Blogger app, in other words!

~≈ß≈~

Now doubt I’ll have that worked out by the time I seriously need to use it as a mobile option.

Either that … or I’d’ve saved up enough to finally buy an iPhone!

At ANY rate … ?

At any rate, I thought I’d let everyone know about something I noticed in my local branch of Sainsburys, today.

As you can tell by the photo?

They’re doing the paperback edition of both Raising Steam and The Colour of Magic for £3-99.

I know — having hung around Discworld Monthly now, for a while — that there’s moves afoot.

For one thing … ?

There’s the #GNUTerryPratchett thing that’s doing the rounds at the minute.

Basically, a few coders who are Terry Pratchett fans have come up with a nod to the man himself: by coming up with various ways of weaving Sir Terry’s name* into various websites and emails.

And some of the folk of Discworld Monthly are handing copies of Sir Terry’s work anyone and everyone.

Personally?

Personally, I think it’s a good idea: even though I personally think Nation, Nightwatch and Thud are his best works.

But … ?

But that Raising Steam and The Colour of Magic are good introductions to his work.

Now …

Does anybody want a copy of Raising Steam … ?

  1. I've never managed to blog from my Experia either! Thanks for the heads up on the books, I'm going to Sainsburys tomorrow and I've yet to buy a copy of Raising Steam (although I do have Mrs Bradshaw's handbook)

  2. It’s a pain, isn’t it, Anne … ?

Either way, Mrs Bradshaw’s is next on my wish list … !

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
