The Daily Teaser — 15-5-2015: Updated

Right , here we are, again: up nice and early — HA! — ready to rock and roll!

Or, in my case, write a post up for your entertainment: whilst a documentary about comets — one I taped last, night — plays in the background.

What’s caught my attention, there … ?   Is the simple fact I’ve — sort of — showed my age, there: in telling you I’d taped a show.

What I’d actually done, of course, was record the show as a digital video stream, to a USB stick.

Isn’t it amazing, though?   The way words can both change …

And stay the same … !

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring nine out of ten.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?   Here there are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) McDonald’s opened its first restaurant, on 15th May, 1940: in the town of San Bernardino.   San Bernardino is in which US state?
Q2) 15th May, 1928, saw the original screening of cartoon, Plane Crazy.   Which cartoon mouse appeared in it?
Q3) 15th May, 1618, saw a noted scientist confirm his Third Law of Planetary Motion.   Who was that scientist?
Q4) 15th May, 58, saw the opening of what’s now the Royal Opera House.   In which London Garden?
Q5) Finally … 15th May was the date of the Ancient Roman celebration of  the Mercuralia.   Which Roman God did it celebrate?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 14th May, 1955, saw many country’s sign the Warsaw Pact.   In which country is Warsaw?
A1) Poland.
Q2) More to the point, on which river does Warsaw stand?
A2) The Vistula.
Q3) How may countries signed the Warsaw Pact?
A3) Eight (8).
Q4) Name one of them.
A4) The People’s Republic of Albania, the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, the German Democratic Republic or East Germany, the People’s Republic of Hungary, the People’s Republic of Poland, the People’s Republic of Romania and, of course, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, or USSR.
Q5) How many days did the conference take: two, three or four?
A5) Three (3).
Q6) The countries who signed the Pact, all followed version of which political belief: Anarchism, Communism or Socialism?
A6) Communism.   (Now, why do I get the feeling readers will be arguing the respective definitions of Communism and Socialism?)
Q7) The Warsaw Pact’s enemies were the US led NATO countries: what does NATO stand for?
Q8) What name was given to the confrontation between the Warsaw Pact countries and the West?
A8) The Cold War.
Q9) In which Warsaw Pact country did English comedian, Norman Wisdom, gain a huge cult following?
A9) Albania.
Q10) Finally … in which year of the 1990s was the Warsaw Pact dissolved?
A10) 1991.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“I have learned to regard fame as a will-o-the-wisp which, when caught, is not worth the possession; but to please a child is a sweet and lovely thing that warms one’s heart and brings its own reward.”

L. Frank Baum, May 15, 1856 – May 6, 1919.
And this tune from Utah Philips …

Have a good day …

As a final quick thought … ?

As a final quick — and sad — though, I should add that I’ve just heard that blues legend, BB King has died.

With that in mind?

Here …

*        Shame in one sense, Debbi, it’s quite a film!   (Bloody impressive costumes, too!)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
