The Daily Teaser — 29-6-2015

You know, I have to admit: I’ve got a few days off!

Frankly … ?

That means I can do a bit of … um … stuff …

I’ve borrowed a few DVDs, from a couple of friends: and I’m planning to get ripping, whilst writing more Teasers and doing house work.

Actually, I’m working on that, between paragraphs.

By indexing everything on a two disc special edition of The Aztecs.

Which is good.

But my WORD …

The job takes a while.

Personally?   It possibly means playing a tune or two* …

~≈Í≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi† putting in her answers: and scoring nine out of ten.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, alone with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 29th June, 1960, saw the BBC unveil its new studio complex: in Shepherd’s Bush, in London.   What was that complex called?
Q2) 29th June, 2007, saw Apple release its first mobile phone.   What’s the operating system on that phone called?
Q3) 29th June, 2014, saw the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant declare it had formed a caliphate: in Syria, and northern … where?
Q4) IT guru, Steve Wozniak tested his prototype Apple 1 computer: on 29th June, 1976.   December 2013 saw one of the machines sold for $365, 000: by which auction house?
Q5) Finally … 29th June, 2006, saw the US Supreme Court rule plans to try one group of detainees violated US and international law.   The detainees were being held where?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 28th June, 1914, saw the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand: the event that kickstarted World War 1.   In which city was the assassination?
A1) Sarajevo.
Q2) The Archduke was killed with his wife.   What was her name?
A2) Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg.
Q3) The man who shot them was Gavrilo Princip.   Princip was what: a Serb nationalist, an Austrian nationalist or a German nationalist?
A3) A Serb nationalist: although he described himself as a Yugoslav nationalist.
Q4) Princip’s action led to the Archduke’s country issuing the what: the June Ultimatum, July Ultimatum or August Ultimatum?
A4) The July Ultimatum.
Q5) What WAS the Archduke’s country: Austro-Hungary, Germany or Great Britain?
Q6) As a result of the Ultimatum, the Archduke’s home country declared war on Princip’s country.   What country was that?
A6) Serbia.
Q7) The Archduke was what, in relation to the throne: heir apparent, heir  presumptive or heir on a g-string?
A7) Heir  presumptive.   (The Heir presumptive to a throne has the best claim to the throne: unless there’s an heir apparent.   As an example, Princess Victoria, the eldest daughter of Queen Victoria, was Heir Presumptive to the British throne: UNTIL the birth of her younger brother, who eventually became Edward 7th.   Prince Andrew, Prince Charles younger brother, would’ve been Heir presumptive to the British throne: until the birth of the Duke of Cambridge.)
Q8) Princip, and his fellow conspirators, were initially tried and sentenced in 1914: in which month?
A8) October.
Q9) Princip died in prison: in 1918.   Of which disease?
Q10) Finally … World War 1, the war the assassination started, formally endedwith the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.   This was signed on the 28th June of which year?
A10) 1919.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Dr. King’s policy was that nonviolence would achieve the gains for black people in the United States. His major assumption was that if you are nonviolent, if you suffer, your opponent will see your suffering and will be moved to change his heart. That’s very good. He only made one fallacious assumption: In order for nonviolence to work, your opponent must have a conscience. The United States has none.”
Stokely Carmichael, June 29, 1941 – November 15, 1998.
And this tune …

Have a good Monday …

*        I showed that to my nephew, Jude, last night: I think we can say he enjoyed it.   (Gollum made him jump … :D )

†        I can’t complain too much, Debbi‡: after all, all those hours mean money.   But, as I said to my boss, on the day: I wasn’t exactly expecting them all at once …

‡        Oh, did you manage to catch Humans, Debbi?   It’s looking good …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
