The Daily Teaser — 18-7-2015

Blimey, but THAT was a hairy morning …

You know — by now — that I’m working: in a local fast food restaurant.

It’s going well, thank you: my co-workers are a nice bunch, the customer are polite — and mostly not drunk — and we usually get paid on time.

Until yesterday …

When I wondered into my bank, in the morning, I hadn’t … !

Basically … ?   Basically, it seems someone in Payroll had entered the wrong date into the system.

It’s since been sorted.

Thankfully.

But my WORD, there was a lot of angry people around, yesterday …

~≈fl≈~

But let’s get a move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers, and scoring six out of six: with Olga† letting us know about her fence.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 18th July, 2015 is Eid al-Fitr: at least for Muslims in the UK.   The festival marks the end of which holy month?
Q2) 18th July, 1984, saw James Huberty shoot 21 people — and injure 19 others — in a mass shooting in a brach of which restaurant?
Q3) Patricia Cahill and Karen Smith were stopped for drug smuggling: on 18th July, 1990.   At an airport in which country?
Q4) 18th July, 1848, saw the birth of cricketer, W. G. Grace.   How many test matches did he play during his lifetime: 21, 22 or 23?
Q5) Finally … 18th July, 1921, saw the birth of the first American to orbit Earth.   Who is he?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 17th July, 1955, saw the founding of which theme park: Disneyland, Disney World or Disneyland Paris?
Q2) More to the point, the resort is in which US state?
Q3) 17th July, 1989, saw the first test flight of the Northrop Grumman B2 Spirit.   What IS the B2: a nuclear submarine, a stealth bomber or supersonic boat?
A3) A stealth bomber: the stealth bomber, in fact.
Q4) Mohammed Zahir Shah was deposed: on 17th July, 1973.   Where had he been king of?
Q5) 25th African countries boycotted the 1976 Olympics: which opened on 17th July 1976.   In which Canadian city were the Games held?
A5) Montreal.   (The countries were protesting the New Zealand rugby team’s tour of Apartheid era South Africa.)
Q6) Finally … 17th July, 1899, saw the birth of actor, James Cagney.   In which film did he play Arthur ‘Cody’ Jarrett?
Have a good day.

*        So many films, and not enough time, Debbi: says I, paraphrasing a noted crime writer I know … …

†        I know the feeling, there, Olga!   But, at any rate, work went well: the paperwork I filled in went down well, and the pay issue was soon sorted.

  1. Thank you, Paul, for linking to my site! :) And the paraphrasing.

You wouldn't happen to know anything about uploading podcasts, would you?

I'm having a devil of a time working with PowerPress and Blubrry. Oy! :)

  2. Pleased to hear it's all sorted. Other than the answer to the first question (Ramadan, although I know there are two Eids and I never remember which one is which one), the rest would be wild guesses and I don't want to check the possible answers...:)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
