The Daily Teaser — 5-8-2015

Did I tell you I’ve got a nephew?  Called Jude.

I’ve got a nephew, called Jude.

That’s him, along with his mum, my kid sister, Ruth, in the right-hand photo.

Well, yesterday … ?

Yesterday, we all headed for a place in Romford called Kidspace.

For those of us familiar with them, it’s a bit like Rocky’s Funhouse, or Ashlyn’s, in Ongar.

On a giant scale … !

Well, maybe not giant.

But certainly big.

And … ?

Certainly great fun.

To the point where I’m going to suggest kidnapping a small child, if possible: just to give yourself an excuse to go and visit the place.

The slides?   Are incredible fun … !

But let’s get moving on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answer, scoring five out of five in the process.   The day also saw Olga† looking in, to say hello!

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, license and video …

Q1) 5th August, 1962, saw Nelson Mandela jailed: for crime against the regime then running which country?
Q2) More to the point, in which year of the 1990s was he released?
Q3) 5th August, 1884, saw the cornerstone laid, for the Statue of Liberty: on what’s now called Liberty Island.   What was the island’s original name: Bedloe’s Island, Brown’s Island or Bastard’s Island?
Q4) 5th August, 1925, saw the founding of Plaid Cymru: the Welsh Nationalists, in other words.   What did the party originally want to promote: Welsh independence, the Welsh language or lava bread?
Q5) 5th August, 1957, saw the start of which US music show: Soul Train, American Bandstand or The Grand Ol’ Opry?
Q6) Finally … 5th August, 1301, saw the birth of Edmund of Woodstock, 1st Earl of where: Essex, Kent or Surrey?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Which Duchy joined the Kingdom of France, on the 4th August, 1532: the Duchy of Brittany, Normandy or Aquitaine?
Q2) 4th August, 1704, saw an Anglo-Dutch fleet capture which territory: Gibraltar, Montserrat or the Pitcairn Islands?
A2) Gibraltar.
Q3) 4th August, 2007, saw NASA lunch its Phoenix spacecraft.   Which planet was the craft heading for?
A3) Mars.
Q4) 4th August, 1995, saw the start of Operation Storm: the last — and decisive — battle in which country’s War of Independence?
A4) Croatia’s.
Q5) Finally … 4th August, 2005, saw Prime Minister Paul Martin announced that Michaëlle Jean would be the 27th Governor General: of which Commonwealth country?
A5) Canada.
I’ll leave you with this thought from the Elephant Man …
“In making my first appearance before the public, who have treated me well — in fact I may say I am as comfortable now as I was uncomfortable before.”

Joseph Merrick, 5 August 1862 – 11 April 1890.
And, given today is the birthday of Nada Surf frontman, Matthew Caws, this tune …

Enjoy your day … !

*        Oh, that explains the video, then Debbi! You’re polishing up the stage craft … ! :D   At any rate, I’ve put myself down as a Maybe on the Facebook invite: I’ve STILL got to check my hours!!

†       Debbi’s video, Olga?   It certainly had me chortling … !

Great to meet Jude. It sounds as if you had a great time.
Yes, I was referring to Debbie's video.
I'll be away for a while so don't worry if you don't see me around (might be able to drop by over the weekend but after that it might be some weeks). Be well!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
