The Daily Teaser — 19-9-2015: Talk Like A Pirate Day

Well, it’s official.

It’s a Saturday.

And it’d one of those rare ones that I have off.

I’m not complaining: I’ve a day off, a little shopping to do, some cash to burn …

And the opening episode of Dr Who to look forward too, tonight.

Oh … And quite possibly a visit from my nephew, as well.

Look’s like I’ve an interesting day ahead …

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s piratically themed Teaser, shall we?

Here it is, along with the How To, License, video …

Q1) 19th September is — of course — Talk Like A Pirate Day.   Which Cornish-set Gilbert and Sullivan operetta is all about pirates?
Q2) Fictional pirate, Long John Silver, featured in which R. L. Stevenson novel?
Q3) Who, in 1953, released the book, The Space Pirate: Harry Harrison, Phillip K. Dick or Jack Vance?
Q4) During the Golden Age of Piracy, two well known pirates stalled their executions by claiming to be pregnant.   Name either …
Q5) Finally … The Queen Anne’s Revenge was the ship captained by which pirate?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 18th September, 1988, saw the founding of ICANN: the body that operates the Internet.   What does the A stand for?
A1) Assigned.   The initials stand for ‘Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers.’
Q2) Approximately 5000 people were killed on 18th September, 1974.   When Hurricane Fifi hit which Central American country?
A2) Honduras.
Q3) 18th September, 1951, saw the birth of the late Dee Dee Ramone.   Which instrument did he play for the band: drums, bass or rhythm guitar?
A3) Bass.   (As he co-wrote it … ?   Here.)
Q4) 18th September, 1618, marks the start of the 12th Baktun: in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar.   One Baktun equals how many days: 72000, 144000 or 288000?
A4) 144000.   (Apparently, it equals twenty katuns … )
Q5) Finally … 18th September, 2014, saw which country of the UK vote against independence?
A5) Scotland.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Now and then we had a hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be pirates.”
Mark Twain.
Oh … and a bottle of rum …

Have good day, me hearties …

*        Well … wasn’t stunned by the Xzibit tune, yesterday: but Shayla’s an utter classic.   But that’s just my opinion, Debbi.   Oh … it’s the 19th!   And look what’s over here …

Thanks for the song and the questions. Oh, and love Mark Twain's quotes. Perhaps we'll all become pirates (but not modern ones)!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
