The Daily Teaser — 27-9-2015: The Equation

Well, it has to be said, if a TV show’s worth watching, it’s worth watching twice.

Or, at least, I think so, anyway.

Which is why I’ve got last night’s episode of Dr Who on, again.

Personally … ?

I’m thinking, at this point, that you can’t have too much of Julian Bleach as Davros: nor of Michelle Gomez as Missy.

These first two episodes of Series 9 — The Magician’s Apprentice and The Witch’s Familiar — are incredible stuff.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring six out of six.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s equating questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) The Annalen der Physik received a famous paper, on the 27th September: called Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content?.   Which patent clerk wrote that paper?
Q2) The magazine received the paper on the 27th September of which year: 1904, 1905 or 1906?
Q3) The paper outlines the famous equation, E=mc².   What does the c represent?
Q4) What dies the E represent?
Q5) The m represents what: metres, mass or maracas?
Q6) The ² tells us c is squared.   What, mathematically, have we done to c: multiplied it by 2, multiplied it by itself or added it to itself?
Q7) The equation tells us that E and m are what: equivalent, equilateral or equidistant?
Q8) Finally … the man who wrote the paper, published three other in the same year.   It’s therefore known as his Annus … what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 26th September, 1975, saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show make its cinematic debut.   Who wrote the stage musical the film is based on?
A1) Richard O’Brien: who also played Riff Raff in both the film and original stage production, AND who was the original presenter of The Crystal Maze.
Q2) Machine Gun Kelly surrendered to law enforcement officials: on 26th September, 1933.   He famously shouted “Don’t shoot, G-men,” whilst doing so.   Who was he calling G-men?
A2) Agents of the FBI.
Q3) The first televised debate between Presidential candidates took place: on the 26th September, 1960.   Who was the Republic candidate in that debate?
Q4) More to the point, who was his Democrat opponent?
Q5) Typhoon Vera hit the coast of where: on 26th September, 1959?
A5) Japan.
Q6) Finally … 26th September, 2014, saw 43 students kidnapped by a drug syndicate: in which Central American country?
A6) Mexico.

I’ll leave you with this thought …
“If the theory corresponds to the facts, radiation conveys inertia between the emitting and absorbing bodies.”

From Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content?
And some dynamite …

Have a good day …

*        It was rather impressive, wasn’t it, Debbi?   Personally, I liked the photo, myself, but there you go … !   (Pointless trivia for you, by the way: Richard O’Brian hosted a game show on Channel 4 called The Crystal Maze.   My WORD, but if ever a game show need reviving … !!)

It seems you had a good one yesterday. Although I was up until very late (or rather, early) no chance to do everything.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
