The Daily Teaser — 5-9-2015: Sweet Charity

You know it’s September, don’t you … ?

You know it, I know it, we know it, they know it … what have you …

And, to be frank … ?   You can tell the season’s are starting to change.

At least, I can.

For starters … ?

The overcast sky outside my window’s starting to look a bit … menacing.

And, on top of that … ?

I’ve switched on my heating, this morning: for the first time in a few months.

It’s not that it’s cold.   Not per se.

But there’s definitely an edge to the temperature …

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 5th September is the International Day of Charity: according to the United Nations General Assembly.   It was originally conceived by the government of which European country?
Q2) The date was chosen as it marked the passing of which famous nun?
Q3) That nun received the Nobel Peace Prize for her charitable work: in which country?
Q4) Charitable behaviour is also known as which ‘P’?
Q5) Charity given as a religious duty — or obligation — as known as what: alms-giving, arms-dealing or arms-bearing?
Q6) In Christian belief, charity is one of three cardinal virtues.   Name either of the other two.
Q7) Charitable giving is one of the five pillars — or basic requirements — of Islam.   What do Muslims call this particular pillar?
Q8) Which UK charity famously listens to people in emotional distress: and runs a phone line for those of us contemplating suicide?
Q9) Which French led charity was founded in 1971: and has a name that roughly means ‘Doctors Without Borders’?
Q10) Finally … which humanitarian organization has a symbol seemingly based on the flag of Switzerland?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 4th September, 2010, saw a Magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit Christchurch: the second largest city in New Zealand.   The ’quake therefore hit New Zealand’s what: North Island or South Island?
Q2) The Golden Dragon Massacre — a gang related shooting — took place on 4th September, 1977.   In a Chinese restaurant in the chinatown part of which US city?
Q3) The Forth Road Bridge was opened by the Queen: on 4th September, 1964.   The bridge is in which country of the UK?
A3) Scotland.
Q4) The Eastern Orthodox Church considers September 4th to be the feast day of the Old Testament figure, Moses: and of his brother.   What was his brother called?
A4) Aaron.
Q5) Finally … Eight people were killed in a suicide bombing in Jerusalem.   On the 4th September of which year of the 1990s?
A5) 1997.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“In a just world, there would be no possibility of ‘charity’.”

Bertrand Russell.
And my generation’s charity record …

Enjoy your Saturday …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
