The Daily Teaser — 5-11-2015: Bonfire Night

You know, the news can be a fascinating listen.

Or watch, if you’ve got it on telly.

Obviously, the BBC is covering the recently crash of a Russian jet: in the Sinai region of Egypt.

The fact planes heading for the UK have been grounded whilst a UK team checks on the security of the relevant Egyptian airports is near the top of the headline list.

A little further down the list, though … ?

Is the fact that, seemingly, MI5 have been collecting data about out phone calls for the past decade.

A decade!

Now, I don’t know about you, but I don’t like people having my bank details: unless they absolutely need them.

I really don’t like the fact a government agency has been collecting details of my phone calls.

It’s an invasion of privacy, for starters.

And, given I was taught it’s rude to read over someone’s shoulder?

It’s downright rude.

~≈Ê≈~

But let’s get a move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Debbi* and Olga† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s Bonfire Night themed questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) On the 5th November, we celebrate the arrest of the man attempting to blow up which of the Houses of Parliament?
Q2) The plot to blow up that House is known popularly known as what: the Barrel Plot, Gunpowder Plot or Jihadi Plot?
Q3) Which famous plotter was arrested on the night?
Q4) How many barrels of explosive was he found with: twenty-six, thirty-six or forty-six?
Q5) Yes or no: would the explosive have worked?
Q6) The Plot was headed by whom: Robin Gatsby, Robbie Catsby or Robert Catesby?
Q7) The Plotters wanted to kill King James 1st of England, whilst he was opening Parliament.   James 1st of England was James the what of Scotland?
Q8) Bonfire Night is traditionally held on 5th November, in the UK: and on Walpurgis Night, in many parts of Europe.   Walpurgis Night is on which date in April: the 30th, the 23rd or the 16th?

Q9) 5th November sees many of us holding a Fireworks Night: again, to mark the failure of the plot.   Which firework is named for Saint Catherine Of Alexandria?
Q10) Finally … In V For Vendetta, the main character, V, wears a Guy Fawkes mask.   Which Australian actor plays V?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 4th November, 1921, saw the SA assault protestors opposed to a speech given by Adolf Hitler.   The SA were the paramilitary wing of which political group?
A1) The Nazis.
Q2) 4th November, 1916, saw the birth of the most trusted man in America.   Who was he?
A2) Newsreader, Walter Cronkite.
Q3) 4th November is the founding date of UNESCO: the UN’s scientific and cultural arm.   UNESCO was founded on the 4th November of which year of the 1940s?
A3) 1946.
Q4) 4th November, 1839, was the date of the Newport Rising: the last large scale armed rebellion in mainland Britain.   It happened when up 5000 armed Chartists rioted in which country of the UK?
A4) Wales.
Q5) Finally … Partners, James Ritty and John Birch, received the world’s first patent.   Of which device: the mechanical calculator, the cash register or the revolver?
A5) The cash register.
I’ll leave you with a familiar piece of doggerel …
Remember, remember, the fifth of November: gunpowder, treason and Plot!

I know of no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.

And a fireworks display …

Have a good day.

And be safe, if you’re at a display … !

*        I’ll keep my eyes peeled for it, then, Debbi!

†        Hmmm … I don’t know where you got THAT one, Olga.   Most of the references I’ve seen give the 4th of November, 1883, as the date: something I see, now, I should’ve put into the question, itself!   (That’s a link to yesterday’s Teaser: happily stored on Google Drive.)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
