The Daily Teaser — 11-12-2015

Oh, for HEAVEN’S Sake … !

My second monitor is going bananas … again!

I’ve got an first generation MacPro, running Lion: one that, as far as I know, has still got some legs in it.

The widescreen Asus monitor I’m using as a second screen — one I’m using with a VGA to DVI adaptor, as it can’t connect via DVI — seems to have issues.

With the thing’s on-screen menu — it’s on-screen menu, rather than anything the OS is doing — occasionally coming on.

Changing the cables helps, every-so-often.

And right now, it seems to have calmed down.

But, BOY … !

I’m hoping for SOMETHING for Christmas … !

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Debbi* and Olga† putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring six out of six, and Olga on five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) Buenos Aires celebrates Tango Day on 11th December.   The dance has its origins in Argentina: and which other South American country?
A1) Uruguay.
Q2) Which Commonwealth nation’s Parliament buildings were destroyed in a fire: on 11th December, 1907?
A2) New Zealand’s.
Q3) French Dahomey became autonomous: on 11th December, 1958.   The country is now called what?
A3) Benin.
Q4) 11th December is International Mountain Day.   What’s Earth’s highest mountain?
Q5) Finally … an Icelandic gunship opened fire on British fisheries vessels: on 11th December, 1975.   During a period known as the what war?
A5) Cod War.
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Japan’s notorious 300 Million Yen Robbery took place: on the morning of 10th December, 1968.   The money was stolen from a what: bank, post office or accountants?
A1) A bank.
Q2) The Japanese Yen — like the Chinese Yuan — is represented by a variation of which letter?
A2) Y.   (The exact symbol is a Y with a couple of lines going through it: ¥)
Q3) Whilst we’re feeling Japanese … 10th December, 1942, saw Imperial Japanese forces land on the island of Luzon: at the start of their invasion of the country Luzon is part of.   What IS that country?
A3) The Philippines.
Q4) Zanzibar became independent: on 10th December, 1963.   Which ocean is it in?
A4) The Indian Ocean.
Q5) The then Kings of France and Aragon, the Holy Roman Emperor, and the then Pope formed the League of Cambrai: on the 10th December, 1508.   The League was an alliance opposed to which rather wet city-state?
A5) Venice.
Q6) Finally … What became the 20th US state, on 10th December, 1817?
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Stand-up keeps you on your toes because it’s instant. With TV and movies, you have to wait for the numbers to come in to see what happened at the box office. With stand-up, it’s right there, that night, in your face.”

Mo’Nique, born December 11, 1967.
And this tune …

Have a good day … !

*        Unbelievable?   I couldn’t tell you, there, Debbi: but it’s certainly mildly scandalous.   I get the impression the critics felt Lust For Life was a stonker of a film …

†        You’re right, Olga, it’s a good one: an interesting heist — like the Hatton Garden one— always is!   (Oh, I definitely intend to be safe … !)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
