The Daily Teaser — 23-1-2016

Blimey, there’s a thing.

You’ve probably worked out, over the years, that I’m a fan of Dr Who.

It’s possibly hard to miss the fact.

So, getting home from work, last night … ?

I found the big announcement on Facebook, and backed up by one on the BBC News site.

That show runner, Stephen Moffat is to leave the Executive producer role, once the show resumes after a 2016 Christmas special.   He’s to be replaced by Broadchurch creator, Chris Chibnall.

Frankly … ?   I’m thinking good luck to them both.

I think we all need that.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video

Q1) 23rd January, 2003, saw Earth receive the last signal.   From what: Voyager 2, Pioneer 10 or Pioneer 11?
Q2) 23rd January saw orders issued — by the UK’s Privy Council — that saw the founding of where: Welwyn Garden City, Milton Keynes, or Letchworth?
Q3) 23rd January, 1571, saw the opening of the Royal Exchange: in London.   Who performed the official opening: Queen Elizabeth 1st, William Shakespeare or King Henry 8th?
Q4) President Richard M. Nixon announced ‘peace with honour’: where?
Q5) Finally … 23rd January, 1958, saw Marcos Pérez Jiménez was ousted: as President of where?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 22nd January, 1875, saw the birth of director, D. W. Griffith.   His best known — or most notorious — film, The Birth of a Nation, was originally released when: 1914, 1915 or 1916?
A1) 1915.
Q2) 22nd January, 2006, saw Evo Morales assume office: as president of where?
A2) Bolivia.
Q3) 22nd January, 1980, saw Dr Andrei Sakharov sent into exile: for criticizing his country’s government.   Which country was that: the People’s Republic of China, the USA or the USSR?
A3) The USSR.
Q4) 22nd January, 1946, saw the founding of the Central Intelligence Group.   The Group was the fore-runner to WHICH US agency?
A4) The Central Intelligence Agency, or CIA.
Q5) Finally … 22nd January, 1941, saw Commonwealth forces capture where: Tobruk, Torremolinos or Tunis?
A5) Tobruk.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Action is drama. If we cannot make the audience laugh, smile or cry with us, we are not actors.”

Sonny Chiba, born 23rd January, 1939.
This tune from Django Reinhardt …

And, given I’m a fan who’s looking forward to it?   The trails for series three of Penny Dreadful …

Have a good day … !

*        Ah, yes, I had wondered what happened yesterday, Olga!   Google’s got this bad habit, sometimes, of eating people’s comments.   Lord knows what’s happening, there … !   (Oh, thanks for the thought, by the way.   I’ve a couple of potential buyers lined up.   I could sell it to my local CeX: but I’ll get a better price, this way.)

†        I’ll keep my eyes open for it, Debbi!   (Oh, did I mention Stephen Moffat’s leaving Dr Who?   It’ll be interesting to see what Chris Chibnall does with the show.)

Mysteries of Google. At least (for the moment) we aren't snowed in... I was talking to somebody from Texas (Copeville) in Twitter. Tornadoes hit on the 26th of December and the whole place was destroyed, two people died...

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
