The Daily Teaser — 16-3-2016

Oh …

I don’t know how much you know about noted UK TV serials.

But, if you DO … ?

You would’ve come across the work of the Andersons, back in the day: things like Thunderbirds, Stingray and Joe 90.

Gerry died in 2012.

Sylvia, co-creator of many of the key serials, and the voice of Lady Penelope?

Died today.

She’ll be missed.

But let’s move on shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Olga scoring five out of five, and Debbi scoring 3.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 16th March, 1976, saw the resignation of the UK’s Prime Minister.   WHICH Prime Minister?
Q2) More to the point, who succeeded him?
Q3) 16th March, 1660, saw England’s Parliament dissolved.   This parliamentary period was called what: the Short Parliament, Long Parliament or Convention Parliament?
Q4) 16th March, 1978, saw Aldo Moro kidnapped by Red Brigade gunmen.   Moro had held which Italian Government position?
Q5) Ferdinand Magellan reached the Philippines: on 16th March, 1521.   The island chain is in which ocean?
Q6) Finally … Marshal Tito visited London: on 16th March, 1953.   Which (then) country was he the leader of?
Here’s yesterdays questions and answers …
Q1) 15th March is what the Ancient Romans called the Ides of March.   Name any of the three months of the Roman calendar when the Ides were on the fifteenth.
A1) May, July and October.
Q2) 15th March, 1962, saw Britain’s Liberal Party win a by-election: in which then constituency?
A2) Orpington.
Q3) Tsar Nicholas 2nd of Russia abdicated the throne, on 15th March, 1917.   Nicholas was the last ever Tsar: and the last Tsar from which dynasty?
Q4) 15th March, 1922, saw King Faud 1st became the king: of which North African country?
A4) Egypt.
Q5) Finally … 15th March, 1985, saw computer company, Symbolics, become the first company to register an internet domain.   The domain was symbolics dot … what: .com, .org or .gov … ?
A5) .com.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“I consider that my best performance ever was as Peer Gynt.”
Leo McKern 16 March 1920 – 23 July 2002.

And this tune …

Have a good day!

*        Well, hopefully, Olga, the cold remedy I pick up, yesterday, will help: if that doesn’t help, I can pick up some cough mixture, and see what that does.   (Oh, the rebooted X-Files isn’t TOO bad: the series could’ve done with being longer, I think … )

†        Frustrating, wasn’t it, Debbi?   Hopefully, there’ll be a second series that closes that story …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
